I used my 40D Monday evening, no problems. Tuesday I turned it on and nothing happened. No sign of life at all. Usually when I insert a fresh battery a red light flashes, not this time. I tried 4 different batteries and no luck.
I'm wondering if it is the button battery. Is there a special method to replace this battery or is it just replace and go.

HELP :(

I think the small battery only preserves settings and has nothing to do with the larger battery.

You might try cleaning the contacts with an eraser on the body. If that doesn't work, you are probably looking at a service issue.

Check your battery door and memory card door- if the contacts don't register as closed the camera won't power on. Check to make sure the contacts are clean and not bent/damaged.

Qlayer2, Thank Yew...Thank Yew...Thank Yew! :)
The card door was "ajar", closed it and a miracle happened.

Did I say Thank You?

You are welcome- when you said the red light didn't come on- it immediately came to mind. Those circuits have to be closed for the camera to power up.
