It makes a great standard lens even as a f4.0 walk around I find it perfect, it is becoming my most used lens.

What are the general thoughts and feelings toward the Sigma 50mm Art from users on this thread? Obviously, you've all kept your 50/1.2 and haven't made a trade, but what is it that stopped you? Do you find any users of the 50A have come back to the 50L?

I'm looking to improve my 50/1.8, don't want the Sigma AF issues, but keep reading reports that the Sigma is 'better'. Looking for the positives for the 50/1.2...

Size, weight, reliability and I really love the "look" that 50L gives.

F1.2 is the answer. The 50mm L is a lot better than the 1.4 50mm from Canon I don't want to go backwards I do use and like 1.2. Also I have a lens I like, it does what I want, why risk buying a new lens that might not do what I want? I need to sell my old lens for a loss and spend more money on a new lens? Does not seem like a good idea. IF I was buying a 50mm today I think I would still do the 50mm L 1.2 I have considered the Sigma for a 35mm but 50mm is to important to me to take chances.

I'm looking to improve my 50/1.8, don't want the Sigma AF issues, but keep reading reports that the Sigma is 'better'. Looking for the positives for the 50/1.2...

I shot a 50A side-by-side with my 50L for a month or so and decided to keep the 50L for two reasons:

1. Although the sharpness wide open was significantly better with the 50A than the 50L, I could never get the autofocus of the Sigma to cooperate fully. It may have just been my copy, but the autofocus seemed incredibly inconsistent during my time shooting with it. Sometimes it was spot-on and others it was front or back-focused by several cm (but not consistently front or back-focused - i.e. can't be fixed with MFA). Granted, the 50L's autofocus is no champion, but I've found that it meshes with both of my bodies much more consistently than the 50A. That said, manual focus with the 50A is MUCH better than the 50L. I don't know what Canon was thinking putting such wimpy manual focus control on a 1.2 lens...

2. Weather sealing is important to me. Although the build-quality of the 50A is excellent, the lack of a mount gasket is an issue for me.

I never had the 50L but your experience with the 50A reflects mine with the 50 non-art as well. It just autofocuses inconsistently. It's never totally out out focus..but always slightly off all the time that I now use it in live view AF most of the time. It spoils the DSLR viewfinder shooting experience but the images are still lovely

I´ve had the same experience - exactly - with Sigma 35A, and that´s another reason to not even think to replace 50L.

Thanks, I will decide after I use it on the wedding this coming weekend. I feel like I should go for the 85L instead because I love my S35 and 50mm is jut too close to it. The bokeh of the 50L is very nice but so is on the 85L
