Hope this isn't a repost, but I have lost the plot with the online stuff for this camera (goodness knows what will happened when the full reviews come out :D )

It's Scott Kelby's field report. He raves about the high ISO jpgs

I should add, that if you haven't seen it before it's an hour long!

Why sell before a replacement is even announced? Even if they announce something new in FF I'm sure it will be months before they start shipping.

On the up side you can buy one of these sub $5000 1Dx's going round at the moment.

Long story made short: 5d3 was unused way too much, got little paid work and figured I could do with my mirrorless. Sold all, and right then got offered some work needing 'better' gear.

They will announce the 5D4 as soon as you buy back the 5D3.

Or announce a 7DIII if I eventually get the mkII version.

Here are some new 7DII samples I haven't seen linked before, going up to ISO 6400 with RAW files available for download -

100 % crops from the ISO 6400 sample at http://www.focus-numerique.com …i-exemples-photos-15.html (external link). The first crop was processed through DPP 3.14.41 with all adjustments zeroed and Neutral picture style, then transferred to CS5 to crop and convert to sRGB, no other adjustments. The second was also Neutral picture style, but used these adjustments in DPP - USM 3/7/7, luminance NR 5, chrominance NR 9, then through CS5 for cropping and conversion to sRGB, no other adjustments. These would look quite a bit different if also processed using the Noiseware plugin in CS5, but I thought it might be of interest to see a basic DPP conversion without more.

The 6400 looked quite bad until I realized it was underexposed by over 1 stop, and the noise I saw looked more like 12800 when I brought it up a bit. Still not all that great either way. The good news is that my 7D actions work very well on the 7D2 results, at least this image.

I was hoping some of the color blobs would have been cleaned up, and perhaps they have improved it, but I still see blue and red blobs of color in the noise. Perhaps there is nothing that can be done for that?

Using my 1D4 action, it works a bit better than the 7D...

I found the same thing - it seemed to have more persistent chrominance than luminance noise, although it did seem to clean up in DPP with the fairly aggressive chrominance NR setting. Here's the same crop as I posted above with no adjustments in DPP but with auto. image contrast adjustment in CS5 (it looks to me like it did at least a stop and probably closer to two stops or so of brightening) and Noiseware NR, no other adjustments.

Are you kidding me !!! Performing level to a 5DIII with a crop sensor would be a HUGE gain not a fail !!!

Considering the 7D2 would be roughly about 1/2 the price of 5D3 when no discount is applied, then I would say the same also. But I would rather say 7D2 is a excellent complement to the 5D3 rather than performing at the same level.

That is what I am betting on.
