I'm guess that the one you were looking at had a shutter replaced. Shutters are mechanical, and thus are subject to wear and failure at pretty much any time. Replacing one is a relatively routine maintenance procedure. On the other hand, sensors have no moving parts, so if they don't fail in the first month or so, they probably never will.
