Yeah, but they'll signal the "end of days" so who's going to be around to enjoy the images? ;)

.

I have to get home to see what I actually captured. I had my Tamzooka, the Kenko 2x and I had it on my T3i. I was shooting at 1/8 f6.3(x2) and was at 100-400 ISO. Once the moon went blood, I decreased the shutter to between 1 second and 1/2 a second and bumped the ISO up to 800. That is about as comfortable as I am with the T3i. On the LCD, they looked reasonably exposed, but I was sleepy as all get out, so I did not review them too much.
I did learn that the weakest part of my set up at this point is my tripod. Trying to get that moon centered was no small chore. I think I am gonna ask Santa for a new tripod and ball head for Christmas. It will make that next blood moon shot attempt much easier on 4/4/15.

I'm very impressed by this lens. Even at 600mm. Yesterday I visit a location with many Grey Herons and get some nice shots with the lens together with my 6D.

I am so disappointed in my shots from yesterday morning. I must have hit the focus ring while trying to adjust my tripod. The few shots I got that weren't motion blurred were WAY out of focus. I need to practice my distant object technique.
(Hangs head is shame)

Thanks guys for the good words on the blood moon shots. It's really a tough shot for the tamron. At 6.3, it's not fast enough. We all ended up shooting a moving moon at .5 sec or 1 sec knowingly that the shots will be slightly blurred. I think the hardest part is to get the moon in perfect focus. I used manual focus with live view x 5. It's good that the tamy focus ring is smooth and the turning distance is slow enough to get near pinpoint focus. But at 600mm or for me at 600mm x2, the shake on the tripod was tremendous when trying to MF. I had to shorten my tripod legs to minimize the shake so I can focus on the moons edge. Sitting on cold ground and a skunk coming by and sniffing me out didn't help either. I ended up shooting at .5 sec and ISO 6400 on my 5diii. My 50d was too noisy at that ISO level. Anyways there is two more blood moon next year. Maybe by that time, the next canon sensor can allow low noise 24000 ISO.

Did you activate the VC while manual focusing? Or is it still too much at those focal lengths?

I turned off VC. I think it's sharper without it on.

Damn Canon failed me. I needed a -6EV autofocus iso 200,000 to get the skunk shot. Heck, I moving to Sony.
