You guys have me all pumped up for fall colors- but I think I'll miss the aspen in colorado. We're going up to RMNP this weekend. Colorado locals- am I too late?

We weren't planning to see the aspenglow, but now I'm really sad we're missing it.

I haven't been in Summit for a few weeks, but Vail down to Glenwood there are still trees holding onto that orange color. Unfortunately, I think most in the park have already changed and a lot had fallen two weekends ago when I was there.
Lower elevations you'll be fine maybe near Boulder; San Juans were at their peak this weekend too. That's where I'd go!

Here's last night near Vail:

When you start planning for next year, figure on coming out the last week of September. Probably from about Sept. 23 to Oct. 5 (later probably) you can find aspen trees changing somewhere during that period. It is pretty cool, try to get a few days out here next year. Afraid you are late for RMNP.

The thread below starts up every year, you could skim over it if you want to see when things are changing and where for next year, plus some good pictures. (plus a few at my flickr page at the link below).
