More to compare international rail operations than posting a great picture, this is a DMU operated by Comboios de Portugal on an Olhao to Faro service in Portugal's Algarve. For rail enthusiasts, the unit is a Series 0450 diesel multiple unit originally built in 1965/66 as Series 0400 and refurbished in the late nineties. Track gauge is Iberian 1668mm.

Once upon a time, the Class 47 was the ubiquitous work-horse in most regions of the UK and there are plenty of great photos on here showing their variety of workings, colour schemes, etc. 47715 "Poseidon" is in preservation at the Wensleydale Railway in North Yorkshire and is shown here, looking somewhat tatty, leaving Leeming Bar on a service to Bedale. The ultra wide FL makes the three car rake look much longer than it really was!

/\ I remember the 47s well and a nice shot of that one. How long since they were taken out of service?

There are still a few with mainline certification, mainly in use by such companies as West Coast Railways, who spot hire them for railtours, often to back up a heritage steam services. A number were converted into a new class - class 57 - through upgrades to engine and traction motors and most of these are still in service, including a number with DRS. Not a bad service life for a fifty odd year old design.

I was so glad to be able to photograph this one. It was the first steam loco that I saw up close back around 2001. Back then I took photos with a film camera but the camera chewed the film and I got nothing.
It was a long wait to see her again!

What do you guys think? I love the antique, vintage look. Especially with these old trains.

I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not too sure.
