Challenge #505, Elegance

This week's topic is elegance. Many subjects can convey elegance. People all dressed up at the opera, ancient or modern architecture, industrial design, consumer goods, performers on stage--just a few ideas for starters. Whether your scene is simple or complex, let's see something classy.

Remember, if you post a photo, you may be the winner. Be prepared to host and judge a new challenge.

To submit, click Post Reply and put your photo name in the subject line. Don't forget your camera model.

Post until Monday noon GMT, 13 October 2014.

RESULTS

After posting this topic, I found that the topic had been used before. It was too late to change it. Oh, well. Anyway, here we go with this week's entries:

rpolitsr, "Elegance for rent": A fine example of elegance in the form of luxury goods and a streamlined design. As always, the technical quality of the photo is excellent.

trumper, "Natures Chandelier": That's the shortest rainbow I've ever seen! A lovely cloudscape. This scene can be called impressive, majestic, and awe-inspiring, but it misses the week's theme because elegance is a quality of people--their manners, their personal style, their appearance--and of things they produce. I checked a dictionary to make sure. "Elegant" is something like "tasteful."

northants nin, "Natures Elegance!!!!!": A grand old tree, but unfortunately the same applies as with trumper's photo. A nature scene doesn't really fit the theme.

teekay, "Concorde: Retired Elegance": Yes, elegance of design shows up here. I can imagine this sleek craft gliding through the air, carrying elegant passengers who paid an "elegant" fee to be there.

marie, "elegance old and new": I was wondering when high fashion would come to the party, and there it is. These women ooze style. Very nice.

Raven, "Elegance - A State of Mind": Now, this is something different. That lady in blue (and green and purple and brown and black) gives an impression of elegance in her bearing, even though I have to wonder who dressed her. There must be an interesting backstory.

Winners

Chosen, with some difficulty, for technical and artistic quality and adherence to theme:

3. marie
2. rpolitsr
1. teekay

Well done everyone--whoops i guess that teaches me not to read the full description of the subject :)
I do try and take a photo after the competition is announced [makes me go out and look] so i doubt i would've been anywhere to see anyone elegant :)

Congratulations! I enjoyed all the photos, including the couple that were slightly off topic.

I always wait for teekay's version of the theme and if the theme has room for an airplane, teekay goes a step ahead. Great that you chose the Concorde, my friend.

marie, people candids and clothes. Well it sound as great as teekay and the airplanes. Very nice capture! I guess it was taken in one of the racecourses near Dublin.
mmm... 'racecourse' do not sound to my ears as elegant as 'hipodromo', the Spanish word inherited almost direct from ancient Greece :)

Raven, behind your model, I see 'ponchos', 'huangos' (i.e. braids or pigtails) and Andean Instruments. My guess is an Ecuadorian group of musicians ...

Thank you OhLook for running the challenge and for the second place and the comments.
In 500+ challenges, we have many repeated topics, and elegance was proposed 80 challenges ago, so do not worry!

Ah! my picture was a bit of luck. Shot on August 20 2013 near the office of my son Rafa. The limo was just there, waiting for my picture :) I went to my son's office to show him my new Pro1 (the second one) just arrived after a long trip though British Columbia, Saskatchewan and down south all the way to Quito, it was a gift from my friend BobsYourUncle, a frequent participant of these challenges.

Congrats teekay, rafael and Marie. Great entries. And nice job judging, OhLook. A very fun theme this week.

I'm not sure what the back story is with this particular lady. Could be a street person trying to dress as elegantly as possible. Or could just be an eccentric lady doing her thing. Either way, she definitely was getting into the music. :-)

Rafael, you nailed it. The group - Quichua Mashis - is from northern Ecuador but they've made Seattle their home for at least the last decade. I first discovered them at the Public Market (Seattle) about ten years ago on the stairs on a side street playing for spare change. Now they're playing front stage at many venues in the area. I really love their music and try to see them as often as possible. Very fun music.

Great jobs everyone! Congrats to Teekay, Rafael and Marie! Thanks for hosting and judging, OhLook. Never an easy job. I was visiting my daughter this weekend and couldn't get an entry in but I was watching, with interest. Fun theme and super interesting shots.

Wow! Thanks for the unexpected #1, OhLook, as I had been expecting either Raven or Marie to win.

The Concorde was a shot from my G1 archives that I had to delve into after a stroll down the main street of our town failed to turn up anything elegant apart from mannequins outside a lingerie store. I didn't have the guts to stop and photograph them publicly.;-)a

That Concorde had just arrived at a museum in Seattle after its final flight and it was great for an old pilot to go aboard and see the cockpit, which seemed very cramped and old fashioned by today's standards.

New challenge will be up ASAP.

A most interesting view of that cockpit, teekay. A tight space for the pilot, certainly. If not at supersonic speed, he may have had cramps on his legs during a London - New York flight :)
Incredibly, I have not paid attention to the Concorde cockpit before, but i imagined an ultra-modern design in it. As you say, it looks old fashioned even for a 1969 airliner. Ah! but we got a glimpse into the future with the film of that first takeoff.

Can't remember the film you mention, but I vividly remember the horrific video of its last commercial flight. It caught fire on takeoff from Paris trailing a huge sheet of flame, the pilots probably having no idea of what was happening behind them but everyone else knowing that that beautiful aircraft and all on board were doomed to die within seconds.
