Canon 135/2 + Canon 1.4x II, is there an interference issue on a 7D, or a 1D Mark III? Would they work together?

Yes, they will work together. If the Canon TC cannot accept the 135L (because they are a bit picky), the Kenko ones will work fine.

Can you please explain in what way they are tricky? Thanks.

Not tricky, picky. Canon doesn't support all their own lenses with their own TCs. There are restrictions to what lenses can take a TC. Kenko TCs are a bit more versatile and can be used on more lenses.

Your answer is in the manual:

135L is fully supported.

Thank you folks. And thanks for that manual. I am surprised that the 100-400 is listed.

I've used this very pair on both cameras you mentioned, it works extremely well. The Canon TC 1.4x II is very good optically in this situation, and the 135mm f2/L is a fabulous telephoto lens.

The EF 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM is indeed extender compatible. Whether you like the result or not is another thing. But it works.

135l + 1.4tc + 1.6 apsc body = 300 f2.8 for around $1500 plus body ? Not too bad eh.

The 135mm takes the Canon 1.4X very well indeed!
