Look into camera restrictions for your game. You don't want to take a huge lens to be turned away at the gate!

70-200 2.8 results. Not to bad. I would have liked a little more distance but the 4.5 would have killed me I think.

I don't see a problem with the 100-400mm, and it's not a "daytime only" lens in a pro stadium.

I shot these at Met Life Stadium back in August; a night game. The lens was affixed to the 6D:

Lighting in baseball stadiums is quite similar to baseball stadiums. I would have no concerns regarding whether or not I had enough light. I would, however, worry about reach. From the upper deck, I just don't see a 70-200mm being adequate...

Just shut up and smile...

It would have to be game 2; I don't think the Royals actually made any outs at first base in game 1. :)

OMG. I am going to the game today too. I just rented the 100-400 yesterday. I have the 70D and 6D body, I am trying to decided which body to use. I think I should use the 70D. I hope it all works out, so excited :)

I think you would find more circumstances where you want more reach than less. But keep in mind you are a spectator cspturing some fun shots. Shooting from the stands even with great seats is only so satisfying so dont inflate your expectations too much.

It was Game 1 and I was shooting from the first row upper deck. I think had I been closer to the action the 100-400 would have been fine.

Here's a couple of night shots I took at Fenway Park with a 100-400L:
