Been shooting night football for 6 years for the HS team and this year converted to flash with HSS.

The home field lighting is the worst in the league and the light cycling is horrible so flash is the way I go. I really like what I've been getting with HSS but don't really fully understand how higher ISO and shutter speed effect the exposure and results. I've been using 3200 ISO and SS 1/1000 with decent results. Is there any good tutorials on this ?? How would adding a 1.4 TC to my 300 2.8 effect flash range and what settings to use ?? I attached a picture of my setup (1dx, 300 2.8, 580ex II below the lens, Bolt battery pack)

I saw Photogeek shooting much higher ISO that looked really clean. Just trying to understand what moves to ISO and SS do when using HSS flash.

Shooting high iso and SS is just like shooting ambient. The HSS flash is just adding a pop to the image. It isn't stopping the action as if you were over powering ambient.

Very nice, Theron!

I want to shoot some bright colored uniforms. Seems our whole league is black uniforms.
