which tele convertor for 70-200mk2

as above really folks would like recommendations on which convertor works best with the 70-200mk2. i would obviously like an extra bit of reach and essentially I’m aware that the decision is based upon that preference however, i ask this question with regards to which convertor works best with this lens?

I would stick with the Canon 1.4X either Version 2 or 3.

Yes, either one works really well. Almost no loss of AF speed or sharpness.

I had the 2x III for about 3 months and didn't like it with my 7D and 70-200mm 2.8 IS II. Lots of other guys rave about it, but it just didn't do it for me.

I found the Image quality took too much of a hit and I could get similar results just by cropping the 200mm 18MP image. For me the whole point of using an extender is to get more reach and the 2x 400mm images were just not sharp enough. I picked up a 1.4x II after I sold the 2x III. The 280mm shots are really good so I decided to stay with the 1.4x instead.

I use the 2X, but mostly on my 500.
It's not the best way to get to 400 mm but if you are willing to deal with less keepers you can get some nice images especially in good light.
Canon's MK III 2X is better by far than the older Mk II.

2xIII or 1.4xII

i preferred the 1.4, but YMMV

Best is a difficult thing to quantify unless someone has gone to the effort to try all the variants.

I recently purchased a 70-200Mk2 and Canon 2x III, and already had a Canon 1.4x II. With only a small amount of testing (a couple of days shooting passenger aircraft) I see no major difference between the two during the test. Yes sharpness takes a very slight hit, and the percentage of sharp shots decreases with either TC. The question comes down to whether the trade off is worth it. For each individual will have their own idea of what is acceptable. Do you have the option to purchase a TC, test it for a few days and return it if not satisfied?

Yes me too ! i am really NOT happy with this Canon x2 III, the IQ become so soft and a lot of loss in details (to be straight i'll say no more details) that i prefer to crop to keep some sharpness,.
I really regret to have put $ 500 in this s**t

sadly i dont have the option to try one before i buy, hence relying on your opinions! this is quite a 50/50 subject some thing either is good and others loath the TC.

Ultimately its an issue of compromise i would never really have fulltime need of a 400mm so the TC is a useful tool when required.

2x mk iii...it will be slow...and it really does reduce the iq...im sorry i got the 2x...i should have gotten the 1.4 mk iii
