I like the "look" copper style of this lens, on the black camera it's looking really awesome.

Without focus confirmation, my eyesight isn't good enough through the viewfinder to nail the manual focus. I'd be stuck with using Liveview at 10x, I think, and stationary objects...at f2.2 anyway. So that's what's kept me away from the lens.

You just need to change your focusing screen ;)
Here some well detailed comparisons between different focusing screens (scroll down to see the pictures comparisons)

Yes, its a vintage design but it doesn't have the vintage look. But the version 1 of the Helios 40-1 does. I found this when I was researching the Petzval re-make on kickstarter. I decided to go with the Helios because it was cheaper although "used". It also came with the 3 original filters, tripod leg, leather case and hood.

This is my opinion but it's ugly. I would play with one but for $600 rather save for a Body upgrade. It's a interesting kickstarter. What kick starters what happens if they reach the goal but they end up bankrupt? Do you get your money back?

I don´t own the Lomo Petzval lens, but a lot of tinkered lenses. There I use sometimes sewage pipes or smoke tubes as lens housing part, tape and a lot of hot-glue. Don´t care much about how the lens look like, but about how the images look like.

But I agree, I don´t like the outer look of this Petzval lens. There are much better looking lenses, like the chrome Steinheil Quinar 135.

Yes you're protected by amazon payments, which handles the money side of things.

If you don't like the price Lomo isn't going to lose any sleep over it, they could have charged $1k and people would still pay it. I don't even like Lomo, actually hate them because I've owned a few of their cameras and they were absolute garbage.

This lens was one of the few things they actually did get right now.

There's an even cheaper option, the Cosina 50mm 1.7 it also swirls the bokeh. I paid like $10 for mine and I've never seen them go for over $25. Sharp as well, it's sharper than my Canon 50mm 1.4! It doesn't even catch up to it until f/5.6, but it costs 10Xs more.

nice Amazon payment, learn something new today! That is the reason I have not tested out kickstarter, I will now!
Sweet for $10 that is something I would play with. Then when done give it to brother to play with.
