I really feel i should let 16-35mm go and welcome 14-24mm, i still want a UWA lens with f2.8, many thing i don't need that aperture for landscapes, yes, but the lens will be used for other things rather than just landscapes.

Nice shot above, wondering how it is compared with Samyang/Rokinon 14mm at f2.8

if its F2.8 at 14mm then wow it's sharp center to corner. Looks good to me.

I hate not knowing for sure, but I took several test shots at various apertures and this shot had the fastest speed, so I'm guessing I had it wide open. The DOF at 14mm is pretty huge.

There was plenty of CA around the window frames, but the LR lens profile made it go away with one click. Also plenty of barrel distortion at 14mm on this lens. The profile didn't quite get it right (walls still slightly curved), so I added a touch more distortion correction manually.

It's a huge/heavy lens, but it's about the same size and weight of my Otus, so it feels familiar to me.

So far so good. I'm off work for a few days and will be getting some good time in with the lens...stay tuned for more. :)

Thanks!
Here's a really helpful comparitive review of the Nikon 14-24mm vs Zeiss 15mm vs Samyang 14mm.

The 14-24mm and Zeiss 15mm are about equal at f/2.8, but the Samyang looks poor. Stopped down a bit and the Samyang joins the 14-24 and Zeiss 15mm in sharpness. It's an amazing value, but I went with the 14-24mm because it looks great at f/2.8 and zooooms. :)

I also got the Lee filter system for it along with 2-stop and 3-stop hard and soft GNDs and a 3-stop ND.

The 14-24mm came today! :D Here is a first shot @ 14mm (full 36MP file available on my Flickr page, for anyone wishing to pixel peep). This was taken at a pretty wide aperture, probably f/2.8, but I don't know. Unlike the EF to E Metabone adapters, the Nikon to E adapters are completely dumb - no EXIF data is transmitted to the camera. And that means that unless I make a note, I won't be able to know what aperture I shot at. However, I took a few shots here in my office building (our design library) and this one has a much faster shutter speed, so pretty sure it's f/2.8.

I do really like the aperture dial on the Metabones adapter. No detents, but very very smooth and easy to operate. Putting the camera in aperture-priority mode seems to give a good exposure.

BTW, this has been processed - I don't do SOOC...ever. Specular bloom (on sunlit tiles and glass marker board) and awful ugly yellow highlights added in post..........on purpose. ;)

David. wowow. looks awesome. ive been thinking of the 14-24 myself to use for my d800e as well obviously. I think 24-70 already makes a good walk around and wider is not needed for my a7 setup (for now). thanks bunch for sharing.

here's tonight's shot.

I guess humor doesn't translate well over the internet.

Thanks for giving your input on highlights though.

no, this is the sony a7 thread. it's serious business. not some canon of a joke thread..

I don't think either of you meant any harm.

Difficult to take those tests, many factors can play there, are those on tripod, also the test was on Nikon D800 and not Sony A7 series with adapter, so i can't build a judgement on that test only.

guys would a powerbank work while using any device or cameras? I ask because it might be essential when we doing long or extended use like doing timelapse.

Thoughts tech guys?

We cannot use the camera while charging so i thought if the powerbank acts like a battery and not only a charging station, it might work?

Thanks! :)

One thing I didn't fully think through about the 14-24 on the a7R is that since no EXIF lens data is captured there is no way for LR to intelligently apply distortion correction with the lens profile. I can apply the 14-24mm profile, but since it has no way of knowing what focal length I used it can't correct the distortion. So, looks like a little extra manual correcting is in store for that lens. Anyone else considering that lens should take it into account. For my part, I'll accept the additional processing effort.
