thanks for the reminder. i think i had it on aperture priority. i thought by back-focusing, wouldn't it lock the exposure in as well?

Nope. Also you should manually set your WB

Shooting RAW means you don't need to worry about WB. But you remind me I should copy settings in LR (or DPP) to the group of images to be combined. So far I seem to have got away with it ;-)a

When you let off of the back button focus button, focus should stay the same

With Brenizer method and taking 20-40 shots, I prefer to merge JPG files vs RAW. My computer is way too slow to fully work RAW files

Do you guys also reduce the size of each individual jpeg before merging? My PC (Which I thought was quite fast) took 30 mins the other day to merge a brenizer that ended up not working anyway. Think it was about 40 36MP shots

Yeah, I've been reducing to 1024, could probably do with smaller images as the final version is still massive but I end up cropping a lot after the fact and you can start to hamper the resolution pretty quick doing that.

I usually just reduce it to 50%, which ends up being 25% of the original size. Because it's a linear (even halving) of the image, I imagine that it would improve the overall sharpness.

Here's a recent one when we went back to visit my parents in So Cal :). It's a 21 shot Brenizer with my Sigma 85 at 2.0

Ditto. Looking good Mikey. Do you think focusing on "Love" would add to the image on the first one?

Stumbled on this thread after seeing Mikey's stuff on Flickr. Thought I'd give it a go, I really like the effect and I'm going to have to try it out in the real world! This one is a 6 shot pano using the 50mm 1.8 (wide open):
