Canon 6D's synch speed with PW and AB

So I just obtain a couple of PW plus III along with 2 AB1600. Using it with my 6D, i'm getting a dark line when shooting at shutter speed of 1/200th. Going down to 1/160th, the photos looks fine. Specs on the PW and AB seems to acommodate 1/200th shutter speed. Is it my camera then that's not able to synch that high?

The 6D synch speed is 1/180th. That speed probably only works with canon flashes (or a good clone). With studio strobes the 1/160th would be about right, would depend on the studio strobe, and you may even have to go lower.

Yes, it's the camera. Max sync is 1/180 or 1/160 when you're in 1/3 stop increments.

I can shoot 1/4000s with Pixel King triggers and 320EX flash so its not the camera. Its probably your flash that cant keep up? Or have you enabled HSS via camera menu / triggers or whatever you do to get it enabled?

There is no such thing as HSS on an AB studio flash. That is a Canon Speedlite thing.

Anyhow its not the camera. It can do alot faster that 1/160th.

Well, a bit faster, the sync speed for a canon 6D is 1/180.

Here is the info from the 6D manual:

he's referring to high speed synch. Activate this on a flash that has this feature and you can do much faster than the normal synch speed.

Read Dedsen's reply above. Of course you can use HSS with a canon flash (or clone), but AB's do not have this feature.

Do you understand how the shutter works? 1/180 is the fastest speed the shutter is completely open for s flash to expose the entire sensor.Any faster and the shutter begins to close before it fully opens. HSS allows a flash to pulse insread of flash so it behaves as if its a continuous light source. Thats a speedlite thing. Certain triggers can fool the timing of studio strobe so that it fires early but the flashtube glows at a lower power for a brief time so that it can be used similar to HSS. That technique is called hypersync or supersync by different manufacturers. But you are dead wrong about the limitations being in the camera.

The PWIII triggers do not support HSS or hypersync snd the tail burn on the alien bee lights is short making them difficult to use in that mode if the OP had the right trigger.

You might want to give up on strobe and camera sync speed advice. You are really not helping with misinformation.
