Correct, the LCD isn't flush totally. I think it's a little thicker because of the touch capability. If you turn it around it should look more flush, so that's normal.

The shutter is definitely louder, but more...robust sounding, for lack of a better word. Apparently the 7DII is much quieter, surprisingly so. Lens shouldn't have anything to do with the shutter sound.

Thanks hokiealumnus. It sits fine towards hinge side. It doesn't sit properly towards end side.

I've noted a difference among every shutter's sound of my original XSi, 50D, 60D, and 70D. While I have noticed every shutter having a distinctive sound - I have not noticed any being 'louder' than any other.

Keyan is the 'first' (now add khwaja) that I have observed to note the 70D's shutter being 'loud' or as Keyan to refer to it comparatively to the 7D2 - sounds like a "Hammer"

Compared to my previous 3 EOS Canon bodies, I do not find it any more noisy vs others, just distinctive, as the others. Is the 70D shutter (and many many others??) louder than the 7D2's shutter? Quite possibly. I have not heard the 7d2.

I don't think it's any louder than my old T3, which is my only other personal point of reference. As immaculens points out it is definitely a different sound...and a much better one IMHO. No louder though.

The 70D is my fourth EOS body, and I agree with Will and Hokie ..... distinctive, but not louder.

No, definitely not. Too rich for my blood (and doesn't offer enough for me to be worth an upgrade). It could very well be quieter, I have no idea.

I have not heard the T3i (khwaja's previous body) and if it's shutter does report fewer decibels that the 70D - wow - that is a real plus...)

but whatever, its all subjective and really for $900 more than the 70D - I have little doubt the 7D2's shutter is more quiet - its being compared to the 1Dx as the "crop 1Dx"... so its going to have perks in all corners...

As you guys have said - the 70d has a much different sound than my old 7d. Still it has the sound of a better DSLR than the sound of say, my t2i when I had it.

if any 70D owner is in any way feeling inferior ;) look on your top LCD display and choose "s" in the drive mode if you want a more quiet shutter... (albeit at the expense of fps)

I guess it is all relative. I was firing AEB almost the entire time we were at Disney with the 70D on burst and my wife made a comment about it rattling away. Of course every DSLR makes a shutter/mirror sound. I do prefer it to the sound of the Rebels, it has a good solid sound that tells you it is a step up camera with a fast action.

First time I heard of my 70d shutter, I did really felt the upgrade from my 500D. Sometimes I forget about it and shoot beside our video during our wedding coverage, that's when I get a tap on the shoulder by my video man. hahaha. Also heard of the 5d3 shutter, the 70D shutter sound is crispier than I thought. 5d3 is still the better body of course. :)

Decided needed to expand my repertoire! My son's Lego - I still have it although he is almost 32 :-) Need more lifelike figures I think ..... more experimentation needed with placement needed too.
