Old version >>> 1.8m

My guess is that it would have significant focusing breathing. Likely providing the equivalent of around 250mm at the long end when focused at the minimum focus distance.

Care to explain what you mean by "focus breathing"?

It just means the actual focal length is changing depending upon the distance to the subject. This has become more noticeable with more recent zooms where the actual focus length can decrease over 30% at minimum focus distance. So a 400mm lens may look more like 250mm when focused at the minimum focal distance.

It's gonna be an expensive year.

- 7D Mark II
- 100-400 II
- 1.4X III extender

Well I own one of these 3, so it's a start. Just need to find about another £4,000

Call me Amanda please :)

Guess internal focussing would make it one helluva long lens to carry around, not to mention store.

Interesting that the photog is holding it at the hood. I wonder if it's designed to be operated both as a twist to zoom and a push pull.

I think it's the new designed lenshood with a hole in it.
By open it, you can with one finger adjust your polarizer filter.

Considering this lens will likely be 2-2.5 x the price of the Tamron 150-600 and and and more expensive than the Sigma 150-600 S , it had better knock the IQ out of the park. Will be interesting to see how things play out for Canon. Make the IQ too good and it will kill sales of the 200-400 and possibly the new 400mm DO. Make it not good enough and people will choose the Tamron or Sigma and save cash and have extra FL.

If canon has made this lens compatible and capable of good IQ with teleconverters this could be a homerun.
