If the updated lens shows the same improvements that the other more recent mkIIs that Canon has produced, I can see this lens becoming my number one wish list item. I was looking for another body to replace my 7D, but I can see me going for this first. I might even sell my Tamron 150-600mm to help with the purchase. It's the lens I really wanted when I got my Tammy, but isn't it always that way in life :D

Of course all this being said, I am assuming that the Canon will be a corker :)

Call me Amanda please :)

If it performs like the current 100-400 they will have a winner.

There's already a thread on the new 100-400, with pictures here.

yeah I agree.. the 100-400L is a stellar lens that canon has been in no hurry to upgrade. when the new one comes out the whining will be about price. and so it goes...

Never cared for the current version but maybe i had a bad copy. Heard there were good copies and bad copies of that lens. Glad to hear you like yours.

good copies and bad copies of any lens. the problem with the 100-400L is noob + crop sensor + two-stop IS + 400mm + internet = disaster

Wow! Can't wait for some reviews. This could really upset my 2015 new gear plans. :D I wasn't planning on a new lens purchase...just a new 5D IV.

Yeah, that's a neat little idea that I can't believe everyone wasn't already doing. Probably patented now to prevent such a neat little concept spreading to more and more lens hoods

The beauty is that it should be relatively easy to bring out more hoods that have this feature and so we can retro fit them to existing lenses. :) It seems to be one of those "it's so obvious, I can't believe nobody has done it before" type ideas.

I've been home-modifying my hoods like that for years. All it takes is a bit of velveteen material and a few pieces of Velcro.
