Any 7D II owners yet with this lens? Very curious....

I have one on order. I hope it's good enough to replace the 1D MkIV.

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts about it as I mainly shoot with this lens. I'm due to give my MkIV a break next year and I'm not sure if it's worth just getting a 7DII or spend "a bit" more and go for a 1DX

Mine is due to arrive today. I hope someone is home to sign for it. Personally, I would not give Canon 7k for a body (I know prices are down a bit). I know it's a nice body, but before I fork over 7K, I'd sell the 500 and use that 7k and get the 600 II and slap The II on it and be just as gitty.

We'll see. I have a 5D MkIII and a 100D as well. And I could need the extra crop too, as I often find the need to crop the photos in PP.

The 1Dx is a fine camera, no doubt. But for me personally it's just too much money. As Methodical says, I would rather spend that money towards a MkII version of either the 500 or 600.
It also really depends on your need. The 500 is a completely different lens on a 7D compared to full frame. I've used the 500 on my 5D MkIII quite a lot, and they work really well together.

One other thing for me; I really like the mode-wheel on the 7D and 5D cameras. I've never been comfortable with the mode buttons on my 1D MkIV. I also use the C1-3 settings a lot.

When I get the 7D, I'll let you know what I think about the combo. Airshow season is over, but Either I'll shoot some model jets, or I will try it out on some airliners.

It works just fine.

I've only been out with it once so far, and I only have my 6D to compare it against ...the AF is much much faster and accurate.

With the 6D, I always had the 1.4x attached 90% of the time. That slows down AF by 50% on any camera and it takes 1 stop of AV. With the bare 500 on the 7d2, I found myself yesterday having to backup to fit a trogon in the frame.

I did microadjustment and it suggests none neccessary for the bare 500 and with the 1.4. With the 2.0x, it's suggesting +12. The 1000mm shots I tried yesterday were all front focused (sharpest point was the bird's shoulder when I focused on the eye), so I have more testing to do on different targets.

I also got the grip, and now my rig feels perfectly balanced.

That is the selling point of the 7D2, bare lens, no degradation in AF or IQ, no stopping down for sharpness (I find with TC f7.1 is necessary) so I save 1.6-2 stops, which means I can lower ISO... 7D2 might be nice to have.

Ouch I think I cut myself on that one kesterc, fab shot.

I guess I will be the oddball and post a non animal shot::o
