Cruise ship gear?

Hey all!

Before I get asked to move this to the proper thread, I posted an almost identical post on in the right area and got a total of zero replies.

In about a month and a half, (christmas) ill be boarding a cruise with my family. The destinations will be Key West, the Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Im wondering what I should bring to each port and what to look out for during this time of the year. Most importantly I'd like to know which lens to start with at each port.

After we disembark the ship, we will be heading to disney world for a few days, suggestions for that would also be highly appreciated.

All three destinations are flat so any mountain shots are out. However there are many great beaches ( except for Key West).

Lots of nice archeture in Key West. Cozumel has some interesting options. I love the island itself however Chichen Itza is many times offered as a shore excursion. It is one long bus ride but seeing the ancient Mayan structures offers many photo ops.

In my book, I would go light as possible. I would take your18-55 as a general purpose lens. Make sure you take a cp filter.Even in the digital land we live in have a circular polarizer will make the blue skies with white clouds really pop especially on Grand Cayman.

I would take your 50 1.8 for low light. Plenty of night cruise ship opportunities. Having a fast lens is great for those low light conditions.

I would add an ultra-wide for ship interiors and some scenic shots. Possibilities include the 10-18EFS, 10-22EFS, and the Rokinon 8mm fisheye. Your T2i has maximum ISO = 6,400. THis might not be fast enough for shots inside some of the Disneyworld rides, such as Pirates of the Caribbean. I found my 60D (ISO 12,800) not fast enough with an f/3.5 lens. But your 50mm f/1.8 might do it.

bring a camera bag...take your lenses, and switch according to what you want to take pictures of
