I like that strategy. Waiting is best since we're just a few months away from the big announcement.

BTW, regarding using the TS-E, I also love that with the in-EVF electronic level it's super-easy to shift and/or tilt while keeping the camera level - all while hand-holding the camera. On a Canon DSLR shooting the TS-E handheld is more challenging.

The 5D Mark III does have an in-view finder level... it's a custom function.

Rented the A7R and metab 4 for a Monument Valley Day.

I really liked it but did not like the controls overall. I am still tempted but may want to wait until Feb to see what they announce for next generation.

Favorite feature is focus peaking with the 24 TSE was really cool

beautiful shots! I like 14.4x zoom that really lets me see the details while focusing.

You'll get used to the controls, though I do find Canon ergonomics to be grade A.

That's an easter egg feature in the A7 menu. You haven't figured it out yet?

Good point. Yeah, the 1DX has that in-view "level" too. It is there, but that doesn't mean it is any good. I've tried it, but haven't warmed to it. I much prefer the 5D III's live view electronic level (lines vs. spaced out dots). And the a7 electronic level is similar to the 5D III's live view level, but it displays right in the EVF. Much nicer and more intuitive to my brain anyway.

Basically, I'm just saying that having an EVF affords several niceties that make hand-hold shooting the TS-E on the a7 more pleasurable experience than on the 5D III: 1. peaking, 2. view magnification, 3. a truly cool level.

When hand-hold shooting my 5D III + TS-E, I typically use my Zacuto Z-Finder - which just turns live view into a make-shift EVF.

I agree, I think the OVF leveling is horrible.... I do think that canon's leveling is generally better than sony's. it's more strict and precise. Canon might be 0.2% +- and sony 0.5% +-

Hehe...I'm slow to find those easter eggs!

Thanks for the kind remark on my photo! That was a seven-exposure hdr from my 5D III.

I can't believe I haven't done it yet, but I want and need to do some tests to compare image quality from 5D III vs a7R. Per my comments above, I typically use my TS-E 24 II on my a7R for single hand-held exposures. But, if it's on a tripod and AEB brackets I like using my 5D III.

You're right on Charlie - I've noticed that too. While I love the a7 level, I too have noticed it's less precise than I want. It annoys me to get the camera "level" and be able to rock the camera around and it's still "level".

Decided to overprocess this one outside the limits of my usual comfort level. Using the "camera deep" process option in LR yielded a product that almost delineates each single leaf of a tree.

color saturation is fine with me. for my own taste what annoys me sometimes is over sharpening. be a little easy on sharpening and that would be great. just my own taste.

Believe it or not, it's actually left at 25 (default) on LR slider scale, and toned down to 0.8 (LR default is 1). I share the same view re: sharpening. I especially cringe when I see oversharpened photos with white artifacts beginning to appear.

I think it's a testament to A7R's sensor technology.

I disagree with your "oversharpening" complaints. I think the main issue here is having to downsample a high-details image for POTN viewing - not enough pixels with too much leaf detail. I don't see tell-tale signs of oversharpening (halos), but maybe I'm just not perceptive enough.
