Is there any news on a new EOS M camera?
The M has been removed from the shelves in camera stores here. I am wondering if there will be a replacement soon or if it is the end of the M series...

I read about the M2 and must say that Canon's strategy for mirrorless cameras is confusing. No clear development path, different products in different places, while the competition is taking over the mirrorless market.

The director of Croatia Canon sales said that most of the users here go for a Canon G compact after they buy the M.
I wanted to buy it as well but since there aren't any here anymore I'll have to go for a 1200D. At least it's a bit less than what the M was selling weeks ago here...

Latest rumor is a possible announcement next month.

I just hope Canon dives in finally instead of tipping their toes in the water.

I'd have to imagine they'd put a duel pixel AF into the Eos-M if they do infact release a new version. If you aren't doing duel pixel AF on a mirrorless, then there's no point in releasing another EOS-M, and if you aren't going to use it for an EOS-M why the hell did you develop either the EOS-M OR Duel pixel AF?

Excellent!!! I hope it is more than a rumor.
I already started to look at Sony, but I will be waiting for the EOS M now.

EOS M is a system without a purpose.

Small size? Sure, the body's small, but, unlike with M43 and E-mount, there aren't many small lenses that can go with it and take advantage of the smaller potential flange distance. And it's not appreciably smaller than the full-frame Leica M or Sony A7-series bodies.

Image quality in something smaller than an SLR? This isn't Canon's strong suite, and the 1.6x crop sensor doesn't produce a better image than the 2x crop M43 bodies out there at the moment. It holds up well at high ISO, but lacks the AF capability to perform well in the dark anyway.

Video? Panasonic's mirrorless cameras do it better.

Low cost? Once you add in the lenses and other accessories, it's not significantly cheaper than an SLR system.

The only purpose it seems to have is to act as Canon's way of saying, 'We're here too' amidst the plethora of Panasonic, Sony and Olympus options, and using its brand presence as a heavyweight in cameras to win over a few technically-unaware customers who can be swayed by the brand name.

Nope, just Canon sensors.

75% of my lenses are Canon. And they work great on Sony bodies.

Canon should give up trying to make sensors, buy theirs from someone else (literally, anyone would be better at the moment), make the EOS mount open-source so that anyone can make an EOS-mount camera and have it AF correctly, then concentrate on making and selling their awesome lenses to an expanded audience.

Gets old hearing the same old song. Why not focus on how you can create good images with Canon rather than spend all effort complaining about what you feel is lacking?

Yep, same old song alright. Like the neverending song about learning to capture better images.

Thing is, you can take good images with any camera, and you can take bad images with any camera. An iPhone can take great images - just not in a lot of situations, and you can't print them very big. A more technically-capable camera just lets you take images in a wider variety of situations, in more challenging lighting or other environmental conditions.

If you're constantly up against the technical limitations of the gear, you need more capable gear, and no amount of skill can make up for it. Otherwise, you'll continue to miss shots simply because the camera isn't capable of taking the composition you want to take.

Looking at current availability, I can agree that more lenses would be nice...I am actually hoping the M will be announced along with at least a couple of extra lenses. Especially a longer prime and a faster normal zoom.

There wont be any Canon news on the new one until February, at least that's what the rep I talked to awhile back said.

I'm saving money for it, but unless they bring out a full frame one I'm going with an A7. I already have loads of lenses to use on it and using them on a crop is painfull.
