love it for shooting guitars. if you fill most of the frame, the lack of megapixels isn't an issue.

First time post - just got an old 1DS classic in good shape for a good price ... but perhaps too goo a price now that I'm trying to find a charger for it. Is there no cheap option for the old NP-E3 batteries? The chargers look to cost the same as the camera!!

Yeah those OEM chargers are going for quite a premium these days. I use an IMAX B6 charger from eBay, cost is about $30(?) bucks. It won't have the right connector for the NP-E3, but it will come with a set of alligator clips. I use one clip on the smaller battery terminal (I think the -ve??), and use the other clip to clip to the plastic surrounding the other terminal, such that it is touching the battery terminal (I clip to the plastic because the bigger terminal is a bit big for the size of the alligator clip and tends to fall off if you clip the actual terminal).

The IMAX is an R/C car charger, and allows a lot more options for discharging and charging than the OEM Canon one, so it does have advantages other than price. That is, if you're willing to clip onto battery terminals instead of a dedicated connector. Actually I've been meaning to create a more permanent solution, and was thinking of using a battery cap and drilling a couple screws onto it at the right spots, so that I can clip onto the screws instead or even permanently wire an adapter into the cap.

PS, did you get the 1DS or 1D? It's not a big deal, but there's another thread for the 1DS as well...

Some bodies, some lenses, and that's all I'll list in case the wife sees this. ;)

Hmm, looks like someone has already done what I was planning on doing... not the same charger but it's the same cap idea.

Dust-off 1Dc and Sigma 400mm APO (lens only works on EOS film or 1Dc/1Ds/D30/D60) Still Kicking! ....

Cool to know that this combo works. I recall when I upgraded to the 1D2 that the SIGMA 500mm f/4.5 EX HSM worked great on it too, HOWEVER< the add the 1.4 t-Con to the mix and even though it SHOULD AF (sub f/8) it would not!

It does on the 1D though!

Have not used my 1D for while as I also have the 1Ds classic which I tend to use more . So the other day I quickly grabbed what I thought was the 1Ds and mkI 50.1.8 as I rushed of to work and it was not until I got home later in the day that I realised I had picked up my 1D . Had forgotten how sharp the images for this old brick could be and why I prefered it over the 400D which was my first DSLR camera.

New 1D classic lover has born.

I have 1Ds MKII, 5DmkII, used to have 1D mkII. So I bought 1D classic for 200€.

WOW, what a camera. Well it's 1D series so what can you expect...
One downside, there is no autorotation, have to manually turn pictures in RAW-processor. Then the AF-confirm issue...

Noise is no issue even at 3200. Here's a test taken with ISO 3200

IMAGE: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/537/bfzpDh.jpg

And the film like grain :)
IMAGE: http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1024x768q90/903/lwZCfv.jpg

One issue is however. It doesn't work with manual lenses using AF-confirm chip. Here's a sample, using an old M42 lens with adapter that has a chip. Reddish cast and green border.
When I tape over the contact points everything is fine. Weird!
