In Montana check out the National Bison Preserve on your way west from Glacier and then over to Coeur d Alene, ID.
In Oregon when you want to come inland from the coast make sure you hit Crater Lake NP and there are many, many waterfalls in central Oregon worth stopping at.

Hi Everyone, We took our Oregon trip in late October via Amtrak. We visited many of the places you all recommended. The Columbia River Gorge, Cannon Beach, Astoria, Fort Stevens State Park, Hug Point and the Lincoln City area were terrific. I'll post some images as soon as I get everything processed. Thanks for your help and advice.

I for one look forward to seeing what you captured. We have such a wonderful and beautiful country. I happen to be a little prejudice I suppose but the PNW is very hard to beat for variations of landscape opportunity. I've not spent enough time in Alaska but it probably is just as nice and maybe in the eyes of some even better.

I second to go through South Dakota.
Badlands and the Black Hills are truly amazing places.
We went there this summer and I think Badlands is a Photographer's paradise, way underrated.
Besides, in Badlands I think you can find compositions that have not been shot a million times.
On your way west you can stop at Devil's Tower another iconic place.
