My peripheral vision was working overtime when I saw this guy as I was driving down a back road. He's a big one!

Wow, those are great, Ian; I still don't have a good barred owl shot, having slammed my brakes on the last time I saw one, thereby scaring it off.

LOL Al! I gently stopped (was driving real slow), stopped and parked in the middle of this back road, and sat there for 10 minutes with my camera hanging out my window. No cars of any kind. It's pretty much the same spot I saw one, maybe the same one, about a year ago, so I always drive slowly and peer into the woods along this stretch. These are almost full frame, just cropped for composition, albeit with the 500 and the 2x extender.

Thanks! Randomly, not so much, but suddenly and with purpose? Yes ;)

Great shots Ian. I frequently see a hawk on wires at the side of the road but there is never any place to pull off. Either that or I don't have my camera in the car. You are clearly much better prepared.

Excellent captures and seeing these taken with a 2X makes me re-think my non-purchase of one.

What you can do with the 2x always impresses me, Ian (and your ability to tell the birds where to perch, what to do, etc ... :-) )

Very nice series.

Thanks very much Don. I am in a very rural area, so stopping almost anywhere is no problem. And I NEVER leave the house without my camera.

Thanks Duane and Linh. This 2x III extender is awesome. It is almost always on the front of my camera, except sometimes around the yard. I have zero complaints with it.
