7D II vs 1D IV?

Has anyone done this test? I haven’t seen any threads yet. I was just wondering how it the 7D stacks up against the 1D.

Theres certain things you can only get from the 1D and I understand that but are those certain things worth shelling out an extra $1000?

They have on other forums. The 1D4 is still better overall than the 7D2, even with the resolution difference. The 1D4 was better than the 5D2, and the 7D2 is just behind the 5D2, and maybe some can try to make a case that they are equal, but this still puts the 1D4 ahead.

The 1D4 is headed for the $2K price point on the used market, I have seen many now at $2200. If there was a $200 difference between the two, I would pick up the 1D4.

Oh wow, I didn’t know they were going that low! I just might have to look into that! I might even hold off a little longer to see if the price goes down more.

I can't speak for the 7D2 as I have only had a brief play with one, though I rather liked it. However the owner of the 7D2 was sending his back to Canon (he has it for testing) as it didn't quite match what he needed. He currently uses a 1DX and a 1D4 and rates the 1D4 as, still, a better camera than the 7D2 for sports/wildlife. He is a professional photographer (I am not) and does some Beta and prototype testing for Canon so I will take his word for it.
I used to have a 1D4 (now a 1DX) and still rate the 1D4 as an excellent camera, I wish I could have afforded to keep it!

If I could pick up a 1D4 for around $2000, I'd choose that in a second without even thinking twice.

If you factor in the Canon battery grip.... the prices are about equal.

I looked at the 1D IV before I ordered the 7D 2 but the prices were around $3.5k...... and many of them are still in that range. I did see a couple at that low price TeamSpeed mentioned, i.e., $2200

Gotcha. Now that the 1D IV is in my price range, I’m now deciding between the 1D IV and the 5D mark III because I shoot other things than sports as well. I’m not sure how the 1D IV does in that aspect though.

The 1D4 does everything well, including portraits.

Big dummy question---why does Canon not still produce the 1D4

Canon stopped their aps-h manufacturing and put all the sports processing into the 1dx.

It's called progress. Canon no longer manufactures the original 1D either. Does that mean they don't like money?

The current flagship body is the 1Dx. Looking at the SRP of that body, I'd say they are quite fond of money.

Canon used to manufacture 1D and 1Ds "flagships". I think that is the point. Scrapping the APS-h line removed a very significant tool that works very well for certain folks who would gladly throw money at a 1DV. Frankly speaking, the 1Dx is actually a compromise for some.

Canon no longer made the original 1D because they upgraded it, not because they scrapped the concept.

At ISO 6400 and higher, tests have shown cropping a 1dx down to the same FOV of a 1D4 yields more detail. Lower than 6400, the 1d4 retains a little more detail. For sports under poor lighting or night shooting, the 1dx is a better choice, even using the same lenses. I have verified that myself as a former 1d4 owner. I never thought I would move to a 1dx due to a wider FOV using the same lenses would require more cropping. I have found that is not necessarily the case - especially when shooting higher ISOs which is where I live.

I'm gunning for a 1DIV and 300 2.8 IS bolted on it, with the 5D3 and 70-200 2.8 non IS as a close encounters set up for soccer.
