Question for you experts.. I want to pick up a 44-2 or 44-4 for my 6D and A7R.. I heard something about one of the 44-4's being automatic or something.. that it wouldn't work on some Canon bodies? Maybe I read it wrong.. Are there any versions of the (m42 mount) 44-2 44-4 that I should avoid? I know the really early 44-2's were not M42 mount so I'm keeping any eye out not to get one of those.

Seems like the 44-4's are a bit cheaper? Maybe just because it doesn't have the swirly bokeh of the 44-2?

Sorry for the n00b Russian questions.. :)

You have to modify the pin to make the 44M-4 'manual' instead of the standard 'automatic' - I've done mine in a few minutes ;) Mine is for sale but you are on the wrong continent :)

Thanks! :) I purchased a 44M (not the -4).. hasn't arrived yet, would I still need to make this modification?

Hi BrandonSi,
The flange on your M42 adapter should push the pin in. I know there were some earlier adapters that had a narrower flange that didn't push the pin in, I don't know if they make them that way anymore. All my M42 to Eos adapters (cheap from China) have flanges wide enough to push the auto pin in. Before modifying your lens, I'd screw it in to your adapter and see if it holds the pin in and if not look for another adapter with a wider flange.

Cool, thanks! I thought it might the the pin that the flange hits.. I have flange and non-flange m42 adapters as some Takumar's I had previously needed one or the other.
