I paid $975 for mine new in 2008 which at the time was a pretty good deal. Still sucks to see it going for so much less especially after hearing about how well L's hold their value. Oh well, I guess its better than electronics that are obsolete and nearly worthless less after 3 years. At least I wised up and stared buying everything used that I can.

I'd like to sell it for the 24-70 f/2.8 II, mainly for the brighter viewfinder and better AF in low light. But heck, as cheap as the 24-105's are going, its almost worth keeping it even if I get the new one since the IS can come in handy at times.

I see people pay msrp for a 70-200mk2 (2500 plus tax) only later to sell it a year down the road for 1900....

and now you can buy a new one for 1900.

Its a great value at $400. There is a local person selling them new at $650 with no taker. He eventually clear out his stock at 550-600.

I forgot what I bought mine for, but it was BNIB for around $700 or so. Yes, I could have waited two years and gotten it for a bit cheaper, but then again, I've taken some priceless shots with that lens now...

Man, for $400 I would never sell it, just keep as a backup no matter what I am currently using.

Canon Canada bundled it with the 7Dii. I'm guessing, since it's an awkward range for a crop body people are dumping them in hopes of making a small profit.

Edit: Sorry, wrong info. It was the 24-70mm included in the bundle.

noticed this also, some times it pays to play the waiting game! but most of us don't and find our self paying full retail price.

WOW, and i thought i was the only one who paid about $725.00 2 years ago for mine !thats okay i have had more then that in pleasure and enjoyment with this lens, and quite happy with it.;)

I feel like people really underestimate this lens for some reason.

My copy is very sharp wide open, maybe I got lucky, but it's a great lens on my 6d.

I know the distortion is a little more than desired on the wide end, but other than that, great lens.

My only complaint is that it isn't a f2.0

I was actually looking to sell this lens back a few months ago, but the going price was pretty low even then. I decided to keep it. Funny enough, it was my most used lens on my trip to Iceland recently.

The 24-105 just suffers kit lens syndrome. It's a great lens. I don't mind the low prices though. That just means when mine gets dropped/crushed/submerged/stolen it'll just be that much cheaper to replace!

Glad I got rid of mine last year around this time. I paid $600 when the 5D2 came out (white box purchase) and sold it for the same.

I paid $800 for mine a few years ago. I regularly see ads for this lens brand new for $499. I think there was another special advertised for this lens brand new at $599. Why would someone pay $400 something for mine used, no matter what I paid for it, when they can buy a brand new one for $499, or $599 ? That would seem to me why the prices have dropped. (Mine is not for sale, I'm just hypothetically speaking).

Adorama has or had refurbished units listed for $599 on Ebay this morning. At $400 that is 33% savings and folks would jump on that in a heart beat.

The ads that splash across my screen constantly advertise that lens for $499. I've never clicked on them though, so I don't know who the seller is. But now that you mention Adorama this morning that had the 24-105 for $599, that does seem to ring a bell. Yet I've since gone back to Adorama's site and can't find any trace. Nor can I find any record on CPW's website, which has been fairly good about chronicling all the good deals out there, Dead or Live.
