I just finished the switch to an SSD I talked about in an earlier post. As it has been three years since I installed Windows 7/64 and Office 2010, I was able to activate them again without problems. I also had no trouble activating Paint Shop Pro X6 and various other software, some purchased within the last year.

I did a clean install, as my three-year-old Windows installation was cluttered up with junk. I ended up using less space that I thought I would need; there must have been more junk on my old drive than I thought. (This is an argument for doing a clean install instead of a drive clone.)

Make sure to boot from the Windows installation DVD to install onto the SSD! It is possible to start an existing copy of Windows and use it to install a fresh copy onto an SSD. But the drive letter will be different, i.e. not C:. And you cannot change it later.

As both the old Windows installation and the new SSD are in the same computer, I can boot into the old one if necessary. This has been occasionally useful.

Question. The clutter you mention, was it stuff you installed but now realized you no longer need?
