Been a long while since I've contributed. Hasn't been much to shoot here and the bow hunting season has had me preoccupied for the past months, but I found that our local winter Eagles have returned and I found a great spot to shoot from. So I skipped the treestand yesterday a.m. and took the opportunity to shoot some eagles.

A very pleasant surprise, as my order was changed to "In Stock, sent to warehouse" today. The waterfowl that migrates through our area are arriving, and it looks like I'll have the lens. Looking forward to using it for the ducks and swans!

I'm thinking of getting this lens to try out birding with the 5D mark iii. Do you guys think 600mm is enough? Or will I need more reach from a crop body??

If you need more, get a TC or two. It's definitely not worth buying another body right now. If you find after trying it that you want one, do it then.

wow, sure wish I'd received notification about this prior to the site upgrade. Was out of town and not VISITING the site, but surprised there wasn't an email blast or something.

There was actually an announcement awhile ago on the main forum page telling everyone about the new update...I was a beta tester in the whole process so feel free to ask me anything and I'll be able to help you navigate the new forum. Cheers!

ATTENTION 150-600 SHOOTERS!

Here is a test image for the new forum format. AMASS makes it easy to add photos to a thread. Simply grab the URL of any image and after clicking "reply" to thread, you can paste that URL on the left-hand side under "EMBED IMAGE FROM WEB" and then click "fetch." (This grabs the image and makes it as large as the forum allows) After the thumbnail appears, click the thumbnail to insert the image into the thread.
Once you submit your post, you can add EXIF info to the image located directly above the image in the thread. Go ahead, try it! :)

After my first few days with the Tamron, I wanted to finally start contributing to this thread. But then JV went and destroyed my self esteem with the excellent eagle photos. Oh well, I'll still post my feeble attempts to utilize this awesome piece of glass.

This tree is the perch of choice for ospreys and eagles. I found the lighting to be less than cooperative.

IMAGE: https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7494/15916535125_f4c7d4fceb_b.jpg

Same perch, same bad lighting, different bird and heavier crop.

I guess eagles have eyelids?

Last one for now...same bird, eyes open

Very interesting with the eyelid.

So I am now the owner of a used 150-600 but I got no canon camera to mount it to. Waiting for my 1d2n to be delivered, hopefully by the end of the week. I was able to test it with my brother's rebel xsi. Really interesting going back to that camera after having used the 7d, the rebel focus system is...well i suppose it focuses :) No opportunity to shoot the moon like I was hoping, damn clouds. Will post some shots soon I hope!

JVthePT were you shooting those eagles near lock 14 off the mississippi? I'm planning on making a couple trips out to the area to photograph them this year. Were those handheld or tripod mounted?
