Is Vbulletin the format of the old POTN? With regards to the post #, I'm referring to the fact that your post above is listed as "post # 17302789"…I don't get it. After that # it goes on to state how long ago the post was made... including the date and time. THis is the info I'm interested in. I don't see what the purpose is of the post #. This said, in the example you provide from Vbulletin, I do like being able to tell what # the post is in the thread tcurrently being viewed…i.e. #3 in your example. I don't see this in the new format.

Okay, so you would like to see the relative post reply # there. Perhaps Pekka could add that later, so that line says "Reply #_, Post #____, etc.".

Other than that, that line is identical to the real estate and content of the old POTN. Time when the reply was made, and a link to that particular reply so you can post a link to it should somebody ask something related to that reply.

Not sure where we are to keep a rolling list of wishlist items though. I am sure Pekka is taking notes, he has already made changes, I believe. :)

That might make sense. Now that someone else has brought it up, I don't see much point for there being the overall post # on each reply. Maybe a post number within the thread...

We should have changed to a bulletin software, tried and proven all over the web. I only feel compelled to post this comment so I can spend my money again under the market place section I can no longer see.

AMASS was tried and proven by many beta testers, including myself.

I kind of agree about the some aspects of AMASS appearing as if from the 90s, but then again, some aspects are very 2014... like how things scroll and move without me asking them to.

I don't like things moving on my screen without me making them move. I don't like when entire pages reconfigure themselves while I'm trying to read them. But this is happening more and more on websites now. You scroll down, and the entire page is redesigned. Very disorienting.

That all being said, if Pekka creating AMASS on his own means he doesn't have to pay VBulletin an annual licensing fee for the use of their software, then I am 1,000% behind these changes, even at my inconvenience.

Think about how amazing that is. That is like getting fed up with Adobe's subscription based tyranny, and writing your own Photoshop. That's like telling Microsoft to shove Office up their donkey, and creating your own productivity suite. I'm sorry, but writing your own forum software from scratch? That's bad ass.

And think about this... has it crashed? Is it buggy? Do pages hang indefinitely? Do garbled screens appear? Are there error messages? NONE. That's bad ass. I wish I could do it. I would code Adobe out of my life so quick... like a lightening bolt, it would make their cloud rain, instead of reign.

Congratulations Pekka. Yes, things jiggle and wiggle and I don't like them, but you are amazing. AMAZING. Amazing.

I couldn't have said it better myself. It is absolutely badass!

Thank you again, Pekka!

I see what you are saying. On old POtN it showed the post count within that specific thread. In AMASS it is showing the overall post # forum-wide I believe.

Exactly…I don't see the point of that.

It's a unique post identifier, so that a post can be directly referenced or linked to. I suppose he could change the text to 'Click here for permalink', but I'm not sure that's any better. I don't see any other place you could use to make a direct link to a given post.

I am reading a lot about people saying that this forum looks dated and from the 90s etc.

You must realise at the same time, that all this has been done by one person, culminating in about 5 years of research and coding to get to where we are today. The same person has a full time job, and does this in his own spare time, with his own money.

I have read people whining and whinging about comparing it to modern day online programs/software that have funding, a team of people, or are multi-million or even billion dollar industries.

So if you want to leave, log out, and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Or you could try to learn how the new system works, or better yet, why not donate money to the upkeep of this forum that is free for your use, free of advertisements, and is run by one person alone.

Perhaps the same people should donate a LOT of money so a team of people can make this what you want it to be?

+1. People, please respect what this has become. We testers put a lot of time (a small, small, small fraction of time from Pekka's time) into making sure this worked and was ready for public release. Take it as it is, and if you don't like it, there are plenty of vBulletin forums out there.

Just a side note: I did not want to make it look too modern, as the old POTN used software from 90's and one of the design goals was to have thread and list pages feel familiar. Thread pages look similar, forum indexes look similar. It was NOT FULLY REDESIGNED IN ORDER TO KEEP IT FAMILIAR FOR POTN VETERANS. if "90's" is "shadows, curves, script fonts" then be it. I did not go with flat design as that fashion will pass in time. What I try is best described as Scandinavian look, soft and friendly, bright and open.

Only thing I would change is post editor tool icons, but there has not simply been no time as perfecting the engine is everything at this stage.
