welps, I'm glad post counts are back, now to move the post number/edited/like stuff IMO. That seriously makes me dizzy on my phone and on the full desktop. Just too busy and feels like I'm running into that stuff while reading posts. Even turning them into actual buttons would help. I'm going to need to figure out how to disable this preview and save draft. Cool concept at first, but the auto refresh is kind of annoying. It takes too much real estate on my phone as well and I have no need for it.

It seems to be quite customizable.

After spending my first full day with POTN I am impressed and mostly delighted with it. The functionality of the previous version has been retained (though perhaps "rearranged"), and yet new functionality has been added. The Activity Tracker is mesmerizing (that is all-new, right?). So from a functional standpoint I perceive the changes as a strong step forward.

Functionality is by far the most important thing to get right. To use a camera analogy, I would love to own a good-looking camera, but compared to functional needs, aesthetics are not as important. My only criticism - and I hope it will be perceived as a positive constructive one - is that graphically the new POTN is a bit of a misstep. However, I strongly disagree with the overstated criticisms about the look of the new POTN. It is not awful. In my view it is a step backwards (graphically) from the old interface, but it is not precipitously worse. If you want graphic awfulness - truly horrible - visit the dpreview forum.

It has been an interesting year or two: My two favorite places on the Internet (Flickr and POTN) have undergone significant change. In both cases, all-in-all, it is for the better in my estimation, yet the changes were met with extreme reactions from users vehemently opposed to the changes. My guess is that it is sociologically impossible to make changes like this and make everyone happy. Would anyone care to cite an example where major changes to an Internet community site took place without major backlash?

All good points, and I was about to make the same. In my experience, at any go live event regarding software, there is about a 30% complaint rate, with 10% being so very negative that you would rather they just not post anything at all. It seems like the trend is worsening though, everything is shifting to a "me attitude" unfortunately.

I expect that given enough time, Pekka will introduce "themes" that will allow a user to change some of the look/feel elements, and there will be other tweaks too. I don't want to speak for him, and perhaps it would be nice to have a "future roadmap" thread where those changes planned can be outlined. It could help shut down many of the complaints up front, if people see that as a checklist that will be followed over time. :)

Hey! If you're dizzy, don't blame POTN! I suggest a pre-existing condition.

We were all warned in advance that PMs would not be carried over.

What?!! You didn't read Pekka's messages? Shame on you!

It's way too soon for me to even have an opinion on the changes. Yes, it's different. Duh. Not sure if I'll end up liking it more, or liking it less. Either way, I'm sure I'm still going to be hanging around and obsessively checking the Classifieds: For Sale forum.

Which brings me to my question: Is there a way to subscribe to a Forum instead of just a specific thread? On the old set-up I had subscriptions to a couple forums on my User CP page (Business, For Sale, Market Watch, General Talk, etc.). It made it real easy for me to use one click to go to a forum just to cruise. Obviously there are ways to get to these places with this new set-up, but in a perfect world I'd like to be able to one-click it from my FYEO page.

As far as the people having the audacity/rudeness to just post that this sucks and they're leaving and waaah waaah waaaah...... so what? Yes, they're getting weirdly emotional because someone moved their cheese -- but some of the Defenders of All Things AMASS are also getting weirdly emotional/butthurt in their responses. Clearly not everyone has specific issues that they'd like tweaked. Some people apparently just hate the new system and want to scream it from the rooftops. Let 'em hate. It's what haters do. Trying to dress them down for their attitudes and word-choices just comes across as petty and parental. You can't make a hater do anything but hate more. Nobody's saying they hate YOU, just the forum.

Yet it is so hard to not correct others or name-call, isn't it? ;)

But your point is valid, however when the negative commentary starts to impede on progress, it has to be locked down at some point.

It becomes a sort of "Rally the wagons, boys!" Mentality.

Things will calm down once people see that it is actually much BETTER.

I've watched Lord of the Rings. They got a whole ring thing going on, that does keep the creature called Gollum very busy indeed!

I will add "follow forum" of course, but it needs some work to get notifications built for it correctly (like grouped per forum).

There is a long list of features to be added and I'll try to post a new thread of those this week.

This is version 1.0. Remember how other forum software were when they were at 1.0?
