Exactly the issue I had. Mine was returned to Best Buy and I purchased (and am waiting for) a new one from another vendor. I'd be interested to hear what Canon says about this.

Does anyone think canon will make any statement at all about this?

Thanks, I was going to crop it in a bit closer but my wife saw it and said she preferred it like it is, so I left it.
May have to listen to her more often now .. Hahaha

Not unless it becomes a much more widespread and publicly reported issue, as happened with the 1DIII.

No. It is rare when they do but had to with the 1D3 because was an actual design flaw which is not the case here I don't think. This IMO so far it may have just been an assembly line glitch. Probably just a case of too much Sake and and Karaoke the night before and someone pressed the wrong button. They would never admit to the public there was a glitch in manufacturing if indeed that is what this is. No one really knows and will more than likely never know. All I know is I'm glad big country sent in his first because they now have the tool to correct it, if this is the same thing. I'm quite confident in the outcome. Of course this is my opinion. I can't back any of it.

I need to learn how to multi-quote. I was more interested in what, if anything useful, Canon might report to digital paradise about his 7D2. I wouldn't expect Canon to issue a press release about a problem with a few cameras.

No I'll just probably get the canned line "made adjustments to the AF assembly" when I get the final work order. This was in todays correspondence. They just received it today.

"erratic auto focus, shows soft images/focus worsens with ai servo/intermittent front focus/check and repair all functions"

Interesting contrast with this one.

I finally had a chance to go out and use my long lens. Shots were taken with 600mm + 1.4x TC

Kevin, I always like seeing Hooded Mergansers. Your second photo looks like it has good focus and I like the fish action. The first one seems like the focus is a bit off assuming you were targeting the eye area.

What do you think when you look at it on your computer? Also, did you think the camera was hitting consistently?

I have the same lens and it is capable of amazing results.

Yes, very nice images ... and me too on the wish I had a lens like that, though I have pre-ordered the new 100-400 .. not in the same league as the 600 but a little step closer.

Ok. I went to the Pond this weekend to play around with the 7D2's (The II) various focus zones and hopefully succeed in getting some Eagles fishing. One thing for sure is I need to get re acclimated with the 1.6 crop factor. I was loosing the Eagle on many shots than when I used the 5D3. Also, I missed a couple really close fishing shots and as one photographer said to me - sometimes you have too much focal length (haha!). Yeah, but I rather have it then not have it. I went there knowing I would miss some shots because I was experimenting with The II zone focusing and a different case than I've used before (Case 5). So far, I have mixed feelings about zone focusing and tend to revert back to 4 or 8 surround points. I think these images were from large zone focusing point. I even left the gear on the gimbal to get these shots; many times I hand hold flight shots.

Anyway here's a couple shots. Although it was a mild day, it was clouding and an overcast, so I had ISO higher than I would've like, but hey you have to do what it takes to get the shots. They are not the best, but ok. I plan to go back this weekend and the next couple weekends to increase my odds of getting some shots in better light.
