Right now it's not 30 or 30 because I've been a member of potn for mor than a year and a half but am only half way to 30 posts and I can't see the for sale adds now. Last week I could.

It is 30/30, but the rule is now that you cannot even see the forum, because that is how scammers would operate. It really isn't difficult to rack up 30 posts. Just go spend time in the lounge, play a few of the games, answer any questions on whatever forum matches your equipment needs if you can, etc. In other words, don't lurk, but try to socialize a bit. Buying/selling anonymously on forums should be based on a bit of trust developed over interactions and feedback.

I watch every one of my buyers as well, because with the latest paypal changes, I can really get screwed with a bad buyer, so now the screening has to take place on both sides of the fence.

I know you aren't a scammer, because scammers wouldn't do what you are doing here, but others not posting anywhere but offers to buy my goods have to supply something in the way of "getting to know them". I don't send money, or receive money from folks that have nothing to offer in the way of reputation or feedback. It is the way I do business, and I have had nothing but 100% feedback on all transactions across all boards, amazon, and ebay doing this.

Well, I tend to come to the forums for information and to see what others are doing in the art. I use the search function to find the answers I'm after and subscribe to the threads I find beneficial. I guess that makes me a "lurker" because I don't feel that posting "Wow! Nice shot!!1!" 5 times a day helps the forums.

I like to see what prices used gear is going for and base my purchasing decisions around that information. While I haven't purchased anything here, I liked being able to search used prices. Now I guess I will have to post a bunch just to see those subsections.

TeamSpeed, I love your posts and follow a couple of your threads, but don't feel the need to "socialize a bit". I completely agree with your point of getting to know the person with whom you do business, but at this point I haven't bought or sold anything here. I realized that I would have to start posting more when I actually did want to buy/sell, but now I can't even see the subsections.

Oh, well... I guess it's time to start posting a bunch.

Lurking may be fine for buying, for some sellers. It doesn't take long to reach 30 though, just play some of the games if nothing else! The guess this macro and the word games can be fun.

I'm starting to agree. While it is far less than 100, unless I start making frivolous posts, 30 is going to be a stretch.

I love this forum and I come here to learn the tricks of the trade, in terms of getting that perfect shot and different styles of PP. If I like a particular shot from someone, I research the lens and then head to the market place to see if I can get a good deal on the same lens. 30 posts? no biggie!

30 is still more reasonable than the 100 minimum post count.

I took your advice and went and commented on photos. It took no time to get to 30 posts and I saw some great stuff. I guess it is in fact 30 posts and 30 days because I still cannot see the forum.

We have changed access to 30 posts & 30 days rule.

I guess that's fairly reasonable, but it would have been nice to also get credit for the legitmate purchases I've previously made.

And speaking of preventing problems, maybe I'm just too inexperienced, but as long as you use non-gift Paypal, I don't see how you can lose significant money. The only time a scammer sold me a bum product, PayPal backed me up with no real problem. I ended paying a couple of bucks shipping, but it was a cheap education!

I have had the opposite experience, I have lost money with Paypal. There is no guarantee that you will ALWAYS get your money back if there is an issue. Also, you can be scammed if you are the seller. Also, many people don't want to use Paypal, which I fully understand. My average # of paypal transactions per day is 5 over the past several years, and I have seen just about everything. :(
