TeamSpeed, I am taking your advice and being social. I've even started a couple of new topics...actually seeking advice from this knowledgable group. The followers of this forum are very helpful and willing to share their experiences and know how. I have greatly appreciated their responses and advice. This 100/100 then 30/30 thing has been the thing I needed to stop lurking. Who knew? Thanks!

Excellent! Great job, and yes, that is the type of thing that makes this forum great. Not the look/feel, etc. It is the social atmosphere and level of professionalism and expertise some people exhibit, and the willingness to help others. I look forward to more discussions from/with you in the future! :)

It may seem silly now, but if we look into the future, and you have a camera to sell for $900, and a member with 0 or even 3 posts contacts you, gives you some personal info and gives you all the warm fuzzies, sends you money, you ship the camera, and later you are notified by Paypal that the account was hacked and your funds rescinded, you might wish that there was a xx day/yy posts vetting period for members so that they would have never known your sale post even existed that allowed them to contact you in the first place. Change the situation a bit, as a buyer even, or change the $$, and no matter how you twist the scenario around, it isn't a good feeling to get caught up in that.

Sometimes, just like security at an airport (even as overboard as some of that is), the average person is inconvenienced for the long term stability and protection of the members. You have to look at the entire picture here, not how you might be inconvenienced this time. ;)

Point well made!

I'm just here to pad my numbers and find out why I can't even see Buy or Sell classifieds. It might sound fickle, but this might be a deterrent that works... on me.

I am on this site almost daily looking for tips to become a better photographer. But with photography you need to gear to even get close to the point where you can make a great photo. This new "100 post" policy is detrimental to new photographers like me.

Replies do count as posts.

For the folks padding their post counts...(not that there's anyone here doing that)...you may want to consider this:

Smart buyers and sellers will frequently review prior posts from folks with whom they may intend to do business. Are you more likely to do business with a user who has a hundred "me too" posts, or someone who has actively participated? just saying... :-)

A more productive solution would be to put a requirement for posts for being able to list something to sell not buy. By restricting the buying section, you are discouraging new photographers from being able to by gear. If they are new to photography, they are less likely to feel they have anything to contribute to a forum.

Doesn't work, that is what we had. The problem isn't the listing of items, it is the pm from the scammed to a buyer or seller. Please read through the thread , many have outlined the issues already.
