This sounds pretty hopeful that we will have them very soon and that Canon will not be short in supply. Recently (e.g. 16-35 f4 IS) Canon haven't has issues with lens supplies.

Has anyone heard an estimated date for Adorama to ship? I know B&H says the 15 and a post in this forum stated Adorama would also ship early Dec. but when I called Adorama they said they have no idea as Canon has not contacted them.

I have expressed my disappointment with Adorama before. They have, as far as I have concerned, not improved since my last preorder.

I describe the issue here (external link):

Yes, I am less and less impressed with Adorama. I was ready to put down myy previous experience (the Sigma Sport vs. Contemporary fiasco) (external link) to an unusual isolated incident. Given my latest experience with the 100-400 II, however, I am finding it difficult not to characterize these incidents as part of a general pattern of poor information management and communication, at least with pre-orders.

I, too, placed a pre-order for the 100-400. As I noted in other posts (external link), customer service reps ranged from not even knowing how to check for a delivery date to simply being able to only say "delayed indefinitely".

After the next B&H update (indicating Dec 15th), I finally called the Adorama in-store sales department (as opposed to customer service). Rep there also had no information beyond "delayed indefinitely", but when I mentioned that B&H had a firm shipping date, she was kind enough to offer to check with the purchase manager. Well, as it turns out, he was out of his office. She said he would call me back. He didn't. So I called back after a couple of days. Again, same dance: customer service reps had no information beyond "delayed indefinitely"; sales dept. still had no information but rep was kind enough again to check with purchase manager. This time, however, he happened to be in, and I was told shipping would be between 8th-15th. After B&H updated again with Dec 12th, I called again today. And again faced the same palaver: CSR saying no information beyond "delayed indefinitely" etc. etc., sales dept. same info, but purchase manager responded with "12th".

I am not faulting any of the customer or sales reps: except for the first person who was clearly not adequately trained to check up delivery times etc., everyone else was quite professional, courteous, patient, and helpful. The problem is the real poor state of information organization and dissemination, at least with new products. This, in fact, was the exact same issue underlying my last disappointing experience (external link) with Adorama. Here, erroneous + incomplete information made its way into the computer database, and nobody from the CSR to the product manager knew enough about the products to recognize it and fix it.

With the EF 100-400 II, for some reason whoever is in charge of product info at Adorama has not seen fit to update the website or the information that customer service reps rely on, resulting in their entire front-end to the world informing everyone happily things like this "lens is currently out of stock and we do not know when it will arrive as the manufacturer has told us that it is delayed indefinitely".

I said this before, and failed to listen to my own advice. But I'll say it again: B&H. At least as far as accurate production information go, they seem to run a tighter ship than Adorama. And even if it all works out in the end with Adorama, it is extremely irritating to have to work through lines of customer service reps and other people multiple times to get some basic product information. This the second time around I've had to spend (aggregate) hours on the phone because whoever was responsible at Adorama did not propagate accurate information to their computers, their customer service or their sales department. And, given that B&H had access to (and made public) the same information, as did the Adorama purchase manager whenever I managed to communicate (indirectly) with him, it is clear that this information was readily available, but just terribly managed/communicated. Or, actually, not managed/communicated at all. Really, really, really poor showing for a business that conducts so much online commerce.

B&H, on the other hand, had, at every juncture, maintained the full product information accurately and correctly on their public website as soon as it was available, both in this case (the EF 100-400 II) as well as the Sigma 150-600 Sport/Contemporary case. Good show, B&H!

So, basically, Adorama is going to be getting their lenses the same time as other retailers (Dec 12th). But in the mean time the dismal management of information internally leads customer service reps to make unsatisfactory to actually false statements (e.g., "no information from manufacturer" when Canon has in fact informed them when the lenses will be made available; the information just has not been passed to the either the CS dept as well or the sales dept.).

Its been noted in discussions in other threads that B&H might be a bit more willing to post an expected ship date than others. But those discussions were about backordered items coming back into stock.

As a heads up, I just ordered one from ProCam, an authorized Canon dealer, and will have it in hand tomorrow. If you ordered late or are just impatient and ready to get one, they had 1 or 2 that weren't spoken for.

He told me they are getting the first US shipment per Canon. He'll have the first US copy, I'll have the second. Kinda neat to think about it, but I guess there's probably a few other copies floating around.

Congrats, Huntersdad.

I won't be able to get mine until early Spring. I hope to have it before the wading bird breeding season here, so late March, early April.

There is certainly no need to apologize. And I wasn't upset or anything. But the very thread is about the announcement of this lens, and on page 20 you post the announcement itself (albeit from a different source, but it's the same announcement nonetheless). No you don't have to read or "trawl" through 20 pages to know this, the very title of this thread as well as the very first post clearly states that.

Again, I am not upset and certainly you can post such things, it's just that it adds no value whatsoever and if you had taken a few seconds to read the title of this post you will know you don't have to.

That would be sweet, wouldn't it? A 46mp with a crop mode will make it 18mp on APS-C, or even better, a 50mp will make it almost 20mp on APS-C! Maybe I should hold out to upgrade my 70D even longer ..
