The lighting on the second one is courtesy of snow cover, which reflected the light into the bush where the Cardinal was lurking.

Thanks, Phil. You are correct that the females are a bit more shy. We usually have a male-female pair in the back yard, and the male is always on display, but the female needs some patience to capture.

Great shots, we had a pair around here a few weeks ago, but I could never get a picture of them. They always were gone by the time I got out there with my camera.

Thanks, everyone. Sunflower seeds will attract them year-round. We often have pairs stay near our backyard for long times.
