Hey Alan,
Replied to PM but have no problem replying here as well - my mk4 was in excellent cosmetic condition and had 118503 on the clock (lot of people didn't like the shutter count although it's nothing for the mk4) WEX gave me £1200 for the camera PLUS an extra £400 as I traded for the 1DX before 25th December.

In my eyes that's a great deal, yes I 'may' have gotten more going private but it could have taken months to sell with lots of haggling and then your never quite sure if the sale will go to plan - WEX deal is done and dusted and I have the shiney new 1DX sat here waiting to be abused lol

I have an opportunity to pick up a 1D IV for $2,100.00. It's a local sale so I will be able to test it out, and I know what to look for as far as the basics go, but I'm wondering if there is anything special on the mark IV I should be aware of. The body looks good, the normal wear and tear I would expect to find on the camera. It has 96,000 clicks on it, and while I realize shutters can fail at 5 or a couple hundred thousand, is 96,000 considered high for the price? Any advice you can send my way is greatly appreciated. It comes with box, one battery, the charger and everything that came in the box.
I was looking at the 7D2 as well, but I think for what I shoot this would be an awesome buy.

I'd still consider 96,000 as being low since it's just under 1/3 of the rating and it seems like most of the shutters that fail make it well into the rating but I don't know the official numbers. I can't think of anything specific to look out for on 1DIVs

That seems like a really good price to me, I know that price has came down a lot recently but I don't think I'd let mine go for that cheap(has similar shutter count).

Thanks lovemyram. I was thinking its a good price as well. I'll take a look at it and run it through its paces. The reason for selling is to offset the price of a 1dx he just picked up. I'll let you know what happens.

Up here in Canada we pay a little more ... i just bought my 1D4 for $2400, but with three batteries. It has a lot of clicks (140K), but looks almost new, it was obviously very well taken care of.

Three things eased my mind buying such a "heavy use" camera:

The owner had a very good reputation here and at FM;

An employee at a large camera repair operation (Sun Camera) stated that they hardly ever see a 1D4 in for any repair, and if they did the 1D4s were at 400K plus; he indicated the 1Ds in general "went on forever" in his experience;

An employee at Canon Canada indicated a shutter replacement ran about $399 , and quite a bit less than that if the owner had CPS membership.

Since I do have CPS, and I probably won't put over 100K on the 1D4 myself, I thought it was an acceptable risk, so I picked it up. It runs great!
