Thanks! Nothing special on the setup. I had it on AE wide open at 5.6. I was hoping to catch some ducks flying around, so I had the ISO at 640, trying to keep it as low as possible while keeping the shutter speed up. I was pretty happy with how it turned out.

I find it odd that the camera does not switch to the 2nd card after the first becomes full! No idea why this is set this way by default. While shooting race cars I had to remove the full memory card to use the 2nd.

I don't have the manual handy to check this feature. Thank you for any help with this.

As to why it's because the two card system which began in 2004 in the 1D2 has evolved and incorporated many functions that people have asked Canon for. There are a number of options and no one "default" would suit every ones need. Someone would find any default to be "odd" unless they except this beasic idea of not all think or work alike.

that said, I too have had mine set to auto switch since my 1D2 about 80% of the time. But often enough I have it set to RAID-1 (double copy for redundancy on paid shoots) and sometimes RAW to CF and jpeg to SD again for paid shoots where jpegs are needed asap, but I need to keep the RAW for further tweeking.

Still shooting with the Canon D7 mkII, 300 F4, 1.4x extender. I did some test exposures taking the MFA much further than my original 2-3 units. I checked the images at 200% and finally decided that +6 would give me the best use of the DOF.
So today I set my hide up in my garden and took a few handheld shots of the local birds at about 20 - 25 yards range.

I have been following this thread from the start some great shots on here now people are getting used to camera
My question is which would be my better upgrade this camera or the new Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS II USM + Canon Extender EF 1.4x III
I have the 7d and a sigma 150-500 at the moment
This would be mostly for wildlife and birds
Please can you give reasons with answer thanks Colin (PS would love to buy both but that's nearly £4000 here in UK)

Lot's of thinking on MFA with this camera and our lenses. I don't think this combo needs it, thoughts ?(yes the ISO is killing this shot)-

MM the background noise I see isn't distracting at all IMO. Nice shot. I'm looking at adding this body to my bag for wildlife/birds so watching this thread carefully.
