Here's a trumpeter in the water. It's getting close to "prime time" for eagles here. I'm hoping to get some good shots with the new 100-400.

Yes, with three variations -- center point spot, center point, and center point expanded.

Here's an example of minimum focusing distance. The 100-400 II will focus at 3 feet even at 400mm.

Here is the full photo:

Here is a 100% crop from it:

Just picked up mine tonight, happily surprised to get the call yesterday from my go-to store in Toronto, Aden Camera, been dealing with them for almost 15 years now, so good relationship with your local supplier helps.

Anyway, I have seen some amazingly great image quality shots from an acquaintance's Nikon AF-S 80-400 version II, the images are so good I kept thinking they were taken from a prime lens, and he keeps telling me it's his newly acquired zoom, I just find it hard to believe when compared to the two original EF100-400 I've owned over the last 15 years.

I am hopeful that this new EF100-400 II will be as good as the Nikon unit, and even more hopeful that it will knock the socks of the Nikon.

It might be a few days before I get to try it out with the 1D MK-IV I picked up a year ago, they should be a great combination for my airshow shots next year.

Unwavering Canon shooter for the last 35 years.

Great to see this lens with a 1.4TC and a 7DII, as hopefully by this time next year I will have that combo (well I already have the 1.4 TC, so that's a start). Looking forward to being amazed by what seems a very promising lens. Was it worth the wait from the original one?

Call me Amanda please :)

Amanda - the wait was too long, but, yes, it was worth it. :-)
