You are absolutely right.

I originally upgraded to the a7R because I thought it might be great for landscapes and architecture, but ran into adapter issues and camera limitations:
1. Adapter misalignment can ruin an image when doing extreme shifts in the TS-E lens. Here is a sample of the TS-E 24 II on the a7R. Notice how blurry the building is towards the top of the frame: https://www.flickr.com …rbo/14422817868/lightbox/ (external link)
2. I have terrible issues with internal reflections with my adapters - both my Metabones III and IV produce the exact same unacceptable results from off-frame light sources.
3. AEB: I love rattling off 7-exposures on my 5D III. I've got my whole HDR setup mapped to C2 on the mode dial. It's fast and 7-exposures are generally plenty. AEB is way more limited on the a7R and I hate how it works - I hate having to lock my shutter button on the wired remote to get the thing to take the frames in rapid succession.
4. 11-bit compressed/lossy raw. We all know that an 8-bit jpeg has far less post-processing headroom than a 14-bit raw file. So, it follows that an 11-bit raw file also has less post-processing headroom. Make any significant curves adjustments to an 8-bit jpg and you'll get horrible posterization. And, coincidentally, I've had more posterization issues with a7 and a7R files than I have since I shot a Canon Rebel.

So, yeah, between my D810 and the (hopefully) upcoming high resolution Canon DSLR, I have no need for high resolution from the a7 platform. What I do still very much need, though, is a perfect walk-around FF camera. And that is the bleached a7hole that really shines for me.

LMFAO! The uncompressed RAW needs to be finally added. Im not sure what the hold up is from Sony on this aspect. Interesting observation on the extreme shift issue. I need to look at some of my images and see if i have over looked it.

Shutter button is def. in a much better than than Previous... but with one takeaway.....

When i would shoot with the screen tilted very low, i used my thump to trigger the shutter, now i find it weird to use my thumb... maybe i'll get used to it... but it's a learning curve!

That's too funny, I swear I just posted that about the a7R in one of these threads the other day...

I love the location of the a7R shutter button for that very reason, at first I didn't get where it was, but it didn't really bother me either... then I started shooting my cat from down low with the flip screen and without even thinking about it my thumb migrated to the shutter button and I thought, "Oh, that's why they put it there!"

Yes, Sony advertises a 14-bit output for all a7 cameras. Here is an article that discusses it a bit : http://diglloyd.com …Digger-posterization.html (external link). I've read the same thing from other sources as well.

Here is another discussion from FM forum: http://www.fredmiranda.com …opic/1247655/147#12028909 (external link)

interesting to know the sony battery lasts longer than the Fuji.. i thought the sony was pretty bad :P

total shots might be similar but the fuji battery will be either full or one bar down almost the whole time. Then it goes to one bar left and you've got maybe 50 shots. Then, BAM! nothing. It's just how fast fuji batteries go from being "good" to dying. Sony tracks the % the whole way which is easier to deal with. Sony batteries also sit on a shelf a lot better. I've been shooting with a NEX5 since it's launch and could pick it up months after a charge and could still shoot (with ~10% battery left). Try that with a fuji after ~2 weeks and it's dead. It might turn on only to tell you it's dead.

I will say fuji batteries behave MUCH better with a good charger. I use the watson dual charger B&H sells. LOVE IT!. But they're still not in the league of sony. The issue used to be a battery a fuji charger would tell you is 100% would actually be 80~90%. So if you didn't top it off before use it'd help in the whole dying too soon bit.

Basically, sony batteries are like the 5Dii/5Diii battery, the fujis are more like the 5Dc battery.

Taken today with the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 (great lens, not really sharp at f1.4 but super sharp at f/2 and above) Great walk around lens!
