I'm running Windows 8.1 with Classic Shell and Google Chrome. And Trend Micro as my virus protection.
Added this in the middle of the post: I'm running Chrome in desktop mode. I see there's an option to run it in Windows 8 Mode (they used to call it Metro) and that one of the things I want to test later.

I had this problem back in the first week after 1.0 was released but I figured it was just birthing pains and I'd wait until things settle down.
But it happened to me again today (3 times) so I thought I'd post it.

I'm an IT guy but I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

Here's the deal.

Using Chrome:
If I go in to "Upload Images" I choose an image and it seems to be working (but I don't get the thumbnail like I should).
So after waiting a while it looks like its waiting for me so I follow instructions (that say to click on a spot in the post where I want to put the picture.
CRASH - Google Chrome closes and I'm back at my desktop.
Trend Micro pops up and says that some malware has edited chrome.lnk and it has to delete it (I get no choice here).
Trend Micro also says I have to re-start my computer to finish the security measures.
When I re-start I see that chrome.exe has been deleted.
I have to re-install chrome again.

This has happened to me three times today trying to upload a Tree picture. I used IE and it worked fine. One of the first things I noticed was that very quickly I had a thumbnail of the picture in the Upload Images Box.

Things I want to test:

I have a notebook (same OS) - try uploading and see if its a problem with my main PC
Try uploading with Windows 8 mode.

If anyone has any ideas or has had this same problem I'd like to hear what you did to fix it.

Well, it seems like I'm the only one experiencing this.

I run Windows 8.1 with classic shell and Chrome with zero issues. I don't use Trend Micro though, I use Comodo. Just FYI.

Yeah, I could live with Chrome dumping me but Trend Micro deleting the exe file and I have to re-install Chrome again is a pain.

Im going to try --------

Huh, I was just in the middle of typing this post and it happened again.

and Trend Micro just deleted the exe.

Nice that when I used IE and started AMAS again my unfinished post was still here

Guess I use IE for my POTN viewing from now on.

I'm using Chrome right now on Win 8.1 with Symantec and no issues on my end. You may want to look into the extensions.

Can you disable Trend Micro from starting up? Maybe try that.

Aha - no crash

So AMASS doesn't like Trend Micro.

Maybe I can turn off just some of the web stuff that it does.

That seemed to fix it.

Trend Micro being a little too aggressive I guess

Strange that Trend Micro caused problems in Chrome but not in IE.
