...I thought that CDS really was Paul so I wasn't going to give him any trouble.

You mean he's not Paul Sr.?-?

Once again you are missing the point. Many, if not a majority, access this site from something other than a tablet, and many of those are probably in business where a tablet might be considered the worst tool for the job. Your assessment of 'tablets are the only game in town' is several years off, if it ever happens at all.

Good luck with that. The future is handheld computers. The future is here.

The future ain't what it used to be,
And, furthermore, it never was.
~Anon

Mobile devices are primarily used by those who view web content while desktop computers and large monitors are used by content creators who do far more than web related stuff. The idea that we have reached the destination in the evolution of computers reveals a limited perspective. The first computer that I programmed on was a massive Univac 1108 that filled a large underground facility and required a massive amount of air conditioning. Input was via an IBM 26 punching holes in Hollerith cards and output was high speed line printers using 17 inch wide green and white tractor feed paper. Ever since then, the evolution of computing has been accelerating at an ever increasing rate with no reason to think that the destination is anywhere in sight. For those of us who are the creators of information, lots of viewing real estate and high speed number crunching are of utmost importance. Looking through a keyhole, which is basically you get with a mobile device, is not a viable solution. Now, I'll grant you that there are more consumers of information than there are creators. And, ... for obvious reasons, manufacturers are prone to hype hot items to the max with sometimes outrageous statements to entice prospective customers. But, with 50 years of involvement with computers, I might possibly have some insight into where we were and where we are and be smart enough to not believe that we have the answer to where we are going.

I like the new format.

I was writing software for "handheld computers" in 1986 for multiple industries - forestry, fishing, environmental etc. I think that future is already in the past.

I guess I don't even understand the point of either side of this debate.

AMASS is like 600% better to use on a tablet/phone than POTN was on V-bulletin. Pekka is continuing to fine tune the usefulness of this site on mobile platforms.

Based on that fact, I can't see what either side is going on about.

Try Tapatalk for mobile. It's pretty awesome. If I am not mistaken Pekka hated it and gave us this instead.

You're mistaken. Pekka didn't "hate" Tapatalk. He just didn't trust it to not introduce security vulnerabilities to vBulletin. He's long held that he would only trust stuff the vBulletin developers themselves would certify as secure for the old POTN. He wrote AMASS since vBulletin alone didn't offer the features that he could see were needed, including support for a wide range of devices from smartphones to 4HD displays and everything in between.
