Currently up on a mountain (Big Bear). Experiencing something I've never had issues with before. Not sure if this is more common in near freezing weather or if my camera has a legit issue.

My camera seized/locked up 2x. Buttons didn't work. LCD blanked. Have to pull battery and reinsert to revive it. No err code.

When reinserting battery, it sounded like the shutter/mirror would reset to default positions.

Only happened twice and was using shutter button to af and take photos. (no, the photo wasn't saved when it locks.)

I seem to avoid the issue if I wake up the camera from standby first with other buttons.

I'm wondering if there may have been some material shrinkage due to cold temperatures.

I take a lot of high school sports indoors and out so a lot of low light. And i don't have a 300mm or 400mm lens so football, baseball, softball & occasionally track requires a fair amount of cropping so a few more mp and better high iso performance is what I'm after. I know I'll loose some "reach" going from a 1.3 crop to ff.

I love the 1D build quality and I'm not interested in a 7dii or a 5diii.
I'm not real concerned about the depreciation and I I know the mk 4 will do great but if i wait until summer and get an X for a couple hundred more I'd have all the features and be a generation newer

I wasn't sure where to post this question but I figured I'd have more 1Dx users here. I currently have a 1D mk iii and I'm planning on selling it to purchase either a 1D Mk IV or a 1DX. Right now the 1DX is just out of what I can justify as a hobbyist but my question is if Canon is going to come out with a new 1D body to replace the X how long will it take for the price to drop a little on the X? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a Mk IV but I don't want to do it if the used X 's drop to $3000ish range and the Mk IV drop to around $1500 right after I spend $2100-2400 on a Mk IV if I can help it. I wouldn't have thought about this except I saw a canon pro was selling 2 1DX's and the reasoning he gave was " because he didn't have any trips planned until spring " does this mean they are coming out with something by spring or is this Pro already testing the new body?

Thank you for any insight or advise you can offer

I'm a hobbyist too and would love to have the X but it's price is not going to work for me either. Having said that, you might consider that the price of the X won't drop for a long time to come. Even if a newer model comes out, unless it has some incredible new feature that pros can't live without, many pros will stick with the X. It's an expensive purchase for a professional and it's technology allows for some amazing pictures, esp in low light. The IV has also held it's value and for the same reason. Additionally, many pros like the crop sensor. Personally, I'd hold onto the MK III for awhile yet and maybe save up for the X. But that's just my opinion, ymmv. :)

I know what you are saying about the 1DX holding it's value but the 1D3 price dropped $400 with the release of the 7D2, I realize the 1D3 is getting a little long in the tooth but I still think the 1DIII is still a better camera than the 7D2 with the dynamic range and build quality. I have never seen the colors out of a Camera like I do out of a 1D build.

I'd love to hear from people that have used the 1D4 or 1DX and the 7D2, but it would take me a while to go with the 7D2 with all of the issues it is having

Thanks

QUOTED IMAGE

Great shot. My only nit would be it's tight in the frame. Easy fix in photoshop with the content aware tool.
