I am going to go a slightly different direction here, and you can tell me to buzz off if you see fit. Are there any groups or photography clubs in your area? I learned a tremendous amount just simply being around people that do this for fun and some for a living. Many of them were eager to let me try out their gear, or share techniques. Yes this forum is great for sharing ideas and knowledge, but there is just something cool about people getting together and bouncing ideas off each other in person.
We have Kelby Photo walks here in town and I am a member of a couple of photo walk groups and just camera clubs that meet regularly and just go take photos together and share knowledge.
It might not be of any help, but it might get your juices flowing, so to speak in finding what you really love about photography. I absolutely love this forum, but I also love meeting with other like minded people in person so we can just "talk shop".
With that out of the way, I would also suggest getting another lens just for fun. Since you won't be spending any money meeting people, and you mentioned you have about $1000 to spend, I would look for a used 70-200 f2.8 or the Siggy 35 Art. I have a f4 70-200 and it is a great lens. But I am also now looking for a wide angle fast lens to get better low light concert photos. My sons band is now gigging and my 85 is just too long for the small venues they are currently playing in.

Name is Ron.

Photo clubs are generally attended by the 55 and older group and the not so computer savvy people... which is why the meet as a club instead if using computer resources. That's fine if you are in that category. I joined one a few years ago and everyone was at least 10 years older and me and didn't like to travel beyond a short drive from their home.
