Well, its now a fact rather then conjecture - black computers are faster then beige (see below link). So its no stretch of the imagination that Canon purposefully handicapped the Rebel on yet ANOTHER level... I know that some of my friends in Korea and in Moscow are working on a instant color correction kit achieved just by changing 3.35 bits in the firmware... stay tuned. 8)

Your right!

When I lived in Arizona 18 years ago I had a black Volkswagen GTI and my friend had an identical white one.

On some lonley desert highways my GTI topped out at 117 MPH, my friend's at 115.

But for lenses the opposite is true: the white ones are usually faster than the black ones..... 8)

Ha,

so black color adds to the car's Cx value ? With my green Celica I topped 122 mph on German highways. Trying to imagine what that will become when I paint it black :D ? Paint as a cheaper replacement for a turbo charger ?

This research paper was done back in 1995, the advances in making black blacker must mean that the difference is even more now!

What I told my friend is that in the Arizona sun the black absorbed more energy making the skin panels warmer. Some of that heat transferred to the surrounding air making it less dense, allowing the car to displace it easier at speed.

Well, it could happen that way.

I have a Silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck.
I have a black BMW.
The BMW is definitely faster.

There might be something to this 'black is faster' thing.

Or try this one :

throwing contest - a "black" Sigma 70-200 2.8 versus a "white" Canon 70-200 2.8. Without doubt I'd throw the Sigma the furthest  But maybe this has more to do with personal preference rather than airspeed, Cx value or the Arizona sun

Hey Tom...

How ironic. Close anyway.

I have a silver Dodge Dakota pickup truck.
I have a black Audi TT.

The TT is definitely faster.

I have a red Pontiac Montana
I have a black VW New Beetle

The Montana is faster (V6, you know :D )
But the Beetle is more fun.

Dan's Data

Dan has a terrific website, this guy is VERY knowledgable. I enjoy his humor enough I actually donated to his site, I check it a couple times a week for new topics

http://www.dansdata.com/ (external link)

He uses a Canon D60 for site photography

Read this Dan's Data Classic to get a sense of the guy's take on things:

You once had a red 10d which I presume, for speed purposes only, has now been re-painted in its original colour.
