Hi all,

I own an A6000 which has somehow (my fault, to be honest) picked up a few specks of dust on the sensor. I have cleaned it a few times using the wet method, however there are still a couple specks which I seem to be just moving around. My question is this. I know on DSLR's if the dust appears in the image on the right, it's actually located on the left side of the sensor. Is this also true for mirrorless cameras?

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Yes, it still holds true. It's more about your position to the sensor than anything.. Think of it like a window in a house. If you were indoors looking outside, and you noticed a speck on the left side, and then you walked outside to to clean it, what side would the speck be on? It would be on your right side.

Up becomes down because of the camera lens. So assuming you took a photo with a lens on the camera, and the dust (in the image) is in the lower-left corner, it will still be in the upper-right corner on the sensor (well, filter stack, anyway).

Random tidbit.. you're not actually seeing the dust in the image, you're seeing the shadow of the dust.

Thanks Brandon, I suspected as much, but just wasn't sure. I nailed the dust, the sensor is clean, I am happy!

Nice job! I really wish Sony would put in a decent dust cleaning system in these cameras.. My Canon DSLR's rarely have a dust issue, and if I see something I just turn the power on/off, and it's gone..

I agree. The only Canon I had an issue with regarding dust was my 5Dc. I tried the Sensor Cleaning on the A6000 but whatever I got into was too much for it.
