I'm on my second D700 now. The first cost me an arm and a leg as a pre-release (I just knew it was the ideal body for me so went for it!) and then recently I picked up a SH one for a crazy 1/5th of the price. Still competitive with that amazing FF feel to its images. These are both high ISO shots. With the Sigma 50mm 1.4 ART no unsharp mask needed.

I just picked up a used D700 a few months ago, upgrading from a D300 and love it!!!!!!!!!!!! I am stunned by the difference in the images, and I get to use all my old Nikkor lenses.

Weren't you able to use all of the old glass on the D300? Sure, the sensor crops the FOV from the lens but I thought the D300 worked with old lenses just the same as the D200, D700, D7000 and such?

You guys are right, I did miss focus on the two gentlemen fishing. I was trying to be discreet when I took the shot. I do wish that it was focused though. It would've been a great image. :-(
