The only way i can relate to leaning outside of a helicopter is when leaning outside of a plane for skydiving. It is nerve wrecking when leaning. The free fall is so much easier but something about standing on something solid and leaving it hits the nerves. Cant imagine doing that for such a long time. For work, had to ride a helicopter doing strain gage testing. I was staring at a tiny laptop computer screen while telling the pilot to do different maneuvers and trying to record the results.
